So, new cameras/gimbal released from DJI for the Inspire One.

http://www.dji.com/product/zenmuse-x5s

both are micro four thirds...

X5 for 2200$ :
4K video up to 30FPS
16MP photos
12.8 stops of DR

X5R shoots 4K RAW, with an unknown price... looks like 8 grand for Inspire One/X5R combo. ouch

Interchangeable lens mounts.. which is cool

They also are releasing a new wireless follow focus system that plugs into the controller, which is cool....

Am I the only one thrown off a bit by the steep price though?
seem to be targeting serious professionals for sure.. but at that point, you might as well fly around your RED. It wouldn't be that much more. Or a GH4 / blackmagic pocket for way cheaper.

I wouldnt consider myself an aerial professional by any means. But I do fly jobs very frequently, and will not be upgrading to either for that price. Maybe I'm just cheap? I dont know..

This is cool, but nothing is magical-problem-free. Larger sensors are more sensitive to rolling shutter and I have seen this on the smaller x3 on inspire. Flying a RED camera is still a good idea for pro-jobs.

Yeah I kinda think the same way in terms of the price, but it's also all integrated. Lens, camera, gimbal, downlink...so I guess it makes sense. If you break it out on another rig there's a lot of stuff you have to add on to get it going. An all in Alta rig with camera, lens, platform, gimbal, downlink, etc, etc is around 15K-20K.

I'm scared to see what the X5 R prices are going to be, because I'll buy that immediately.

Even at $8K... it's a wonderful solution... considering many people were paying more than that for their DJI S1000 rigs with gimbals and cameras that offered less features.

RAW video... holy crap. That's exactly what DJI needed.

Pretty excited about this... the X5R when its available... maybe the first drone that I buy. The data rate of the X5R is 1.7gbps instead of 60mbps on the X5... pretty good data rate for my image quality needs.

I hope you can get it for the phantom 3 later aswell. Yeah im suprized of the price to but if it perform its ok. I always thought gopro and other action cameras aimed to low in terms os visual quality. Wished that they stepped up and now dji maby done so. I bettter watch some results to be sure and bring it in to premiere.

But if one want a more simple camera there is alot of options.

It's no RED. Heck it's not even a GH4. Lots of compression junk - look at the jet ski sequences to see a codec crash. Keep at it DJI, this was a good beta test but not an improvement over existing solutions for image. My Inspire is standing by for the upgrade when it's a better image than the year old+ GH4.

Love the manual controls and the interface. The folks in the software department are killing it. The new waypoints release is also very cool.

Comparing a web codec to the 1.7gpbs internal codec of the camera is an unfair comparison. The X5R shoots lossless video.

very tempted...lossless raw video would play much nicer with my Dragon footage than current gen Inspire 1 cam does. I like the lens interchange option (Leica). I just hope DJI improves on its pathetic transport cases.

Considering the almost exact similarity on everything but appearance (& a few other differences obviously) , I just dont understand why the steep price point on the inspire compared to the Phantom 3 that has the exact same image quality.. If you ask me, DJI priced the P3 too cheap. Maybe they will slash the 3,000$ price point of the Inspire, but i doubt it. If we're already paying that much for the Inspire itself, make the X series a bit cheaper good lord.

I dont think anybody knows yet, my guess is right around $1,000. Maybe $1500

Since the iOS app has focus built in I'm guessing this is the same follow focus that was demoed at NAB with a motor, as it would be awfully niche otherwise. I'm wondering, too. Big market for this thing. Will they sell the motor separately?

Lol are you really judging this camera on a Youtube video?

Not entirely but, with experience, you can look at a YouTube vid and see common digital issues. I own both the Inspire and P3 as well as several P2's with Hero4's. The current 4K crop of cameras from DJI suffer from compression issues which make them unusable shooting scenes with lots of fine detail like lawns or trees. The detail turns to mush or, worse yet, you get flashing frames as the codec pukes. Last year's GoPro Hero 4 premiere videos beats anything DJI has published recently with their MFT sensor. Both were uploaded and compressed by YouTube ;-)

The GoPro4 Black is 1/10th the cost of the DJI MFT "RAW" camera. For $5000 camera only we should expect to be blown away. Was expecting A7RII footie for that price tag (or at least GH4) so not impressed.

@Andrea The YT video states in the notes that they shot like every other scene in RAW. Not seeing any difference between that and what I'm currently getting with a $1300 P3. DJI makes great airframes and, recently, some real kick ass software to go with. Their past and current cameras suck. I'm sure that will change with Rev 2 but for now I'm waiting to see what GoPro 5 looks like before spending more with DJI.

Keep at it DJI. The trend is good but still lots to do on the camera side.

EDIT: DJI could amaze all of us with uploading the RAW files from camera used in the promo vids to show how clean the footage is before the folks at YouTube ruins it with their nasty compression 'n stuff. Yeah right ;-)
