DJI Wireless Follow Focus - 1st Impression

$413 repair quote to fix a "control mainboard bad." Quote claims no proof of purchase.

I bought this thru DJI.com via paypal right when they were released. Anyone have similar experience/advice?

Had a long discussion with a DJI rep concerning the repair and what guarantee or warranty I can get on the replacement part. My
question was this: If DJI will not warranty a new replacement component that is half the cost of a complete brand new remote, will
I at least get a free replacement if the same repair is needed in 6 months to a year? Though there was a bit of language barrier, the
message I got boils down to: There is no warranty even on a new replacement part, and if it malfunctions, you can pay for a new
one. Again.

I made it clear that this is not acceptable business practice and requested a conversation with a supervisor. The rep (very much
wanting to be done with the phone call) told me I would be contacted, but the overall feeling I got from our conversation was that
she was a bit confused by my questions and request for warranty on the $413 part, and that she only placated me by saying that
someone would contact me.

Haven't heard from DJI in several business days and don't expect to. Although I'm disappointed that the remote failed for no reason
in the middle of a take on a paid job, I wasn't entirely opposed to paying for a repair. But "control mainboard bad" is not even close to
an explanation of the problem if this company expects me to blindly pay them $413 for a brand new part for which they provide no
warranty or guarantee.

EDIT: Had successful online chat, controller was replaced, new one malfunctioned, now expecting another new one plus a new motor
they say. As far as I know the motor was fine LOL

Hmm,

My motor got fired as a client managed to plug it in with wrong polarity so it got tosted there are no diods in these motors so be carefull. But DJI replaced it without hesitation even though I told them what happen. But the replacement motor was dead on arrival. Then they had some struggle to figure out my case number etc but after 2 months anew motor was sent to me and that one works like a charm. :)

My motor hasn't had issues yet, my problem is with a dead remote controller. Died in the middle of a pull

EDIT: I finally got the right rep through the online chat and was able to get confirmation of a 1 year parts
replacement warranty on the repair.

Posted all this in case it may help anyone with a similar predicament. I recommend the online chat if you
want direct communication with a rep.

Mr Paul Pan, welcome.

Could you please, for the love of all Gods both old an new,
- get your ppl to make an Arri run / stop cable.
- make a v2 of your motor COMPATIBLE with the current hand set that has a diode and is a bit stronger. No "buy everything new" crap.
- make the screws that hold the stops on the handset available on the store as replacements. (if anyone knows where to get a few of those, please let me know)

thank you so much for stopping by

Hey Guido,

I got the r/s box, and it works great.

But until you have an Arri cable, it s a toy, not a tool.

Cheers

Hello all,

Does anyone know wich red dsmc cameras will work with dji's red rss cable? I know they re not all alike and wonder if there is a possibility of frying a module...

Thanks in advance

These things continue being absolutely crap for reliability. 2 more dead ones in the last 2 weeks.
Pretty close to just selling these and being done. As I said in a previous post, I've owned 6 in the last year. All of them have failed, some of them twice. DJI has only repaired under warranty 1/2 the time. Plus 3-4 weeks of downtime each time.

Anyone have extra Bartechs for sale?

DJI, as the big company it is today, may well devote a negligible amount of its resources to develop a second version of the Focus to solve this problems, that may mean close to nothing to them. I think the reason they don't do this, is that it probably is a side-product of little interest; proof of that is the difficulty to find it in their web site. But, if this is the case, why is it still offered for sale? Given that when it works it is a great product, making the electronics more robust should be chicken shit for them...
I have to send a dead motor/receiver to the US repair center (from Argentina) for the third time in 7 months. Absolutely unreliable, basically unacceptable.

I had mine replaced 3 times. Anyone else that feel that the replacment uints latley are less strong than the first motor you got?

Bought mine last month to use on a feature. Motor died after 3 days so I sent it back to DJI for refund. They declined my refund because the hand unit had a scratch on the back of it. I disputed with customer service and they said they would re-evaluate and get back to me. instead of getting back to me they decided to just send me the broken unit back.

Infuriating customer service.

STAY AWAY!!!

What's the latest firmware for the motor?

I've never had good CS from DJI. Even when I bought the M600.

Dangit. I'm on the fence about the DJI R2 group buy, then stumbled on this thread. Also noticed the FF no longer available on B&H. Doesn't inspire confidence. (However I've had great experiences with several DJI model drones.)

I did tried it once, broke first day, was new out of box

After a year and a half waiting for repair after it breaking on the 2nd day of shooting they said they would now send it back un repaired because of wear and tear. its in pristine condition.

Im a big DJI fan but these motors they simply did not do right.

I think I´m on my fifth motor by now. The procidure is the same I claim a repair and they tel me to send videos and explinations of what happen. Then I send the motor in and they send me a new one. Sometimes the replacment actually works for a couple of days and other times it´s been dead on arival. The one I ogt now worked for a while using the cable but did not want to connect without the cable no matther how many times I reinstalled firmware and did the linking process.

So As we got 38 pages of this mess should we not make a name list or such and simly demand they sort this out and send us something that works or the money back. I dont like to see that they just get away with wearing people out using their quite cumbersome repair processes and I dont see these motors being reliable enough. If a motor works wihtout issues in the morning I´m still worried it will be toast before lunch. Thats not how its supposed to be.

Sure its not a costly system. But honeslty that is no real excuse for it not to work at all.

I think if we gather a whole pile of names and simply claim our money back they will have to do something, no?

I really like the system as small as it is if it just worked so personally I feel they should get cracking and actually just make a new motor that actually last more than a couple of days and send it to us, no?
