DJI RONIN PRO SUPPORT

Sorry that im double posting this (already posted this in "dji Ronin (XL) Multi Test-Shoot/Review!") but I guess in this thread maby even Dji will answer.

So I have not used my ronin since christmas when I quickly balanced a canon still camera on it just to see how it worked. The balance was pretty easy and today when I had time to balance the epic on it I run in to a little problem with the roll axis. I don't know if you all have redvolts to throw in the sidehandle since for me its leaning towards right even when I have the sidehandle alll the way against the left side.

By looking at this video it seam like he must have a redvolt in the side handle.

Joel, your RED should balance on the Ronin with the REDVOLT in the SIDE HANDLE without any problems. But if you really are having issues even after getting too close to the side - you have two options. One is to reconfigure your RED so you offset the weight balance to the other side. The other is to shift the entire horizontal tilt arms (the U-shaped arms going around your camera) at the back position where they are attached to the roll axis. The procedure is outlined in the manual and also in some of the videos online. You will need to loosen bolts on both the top and bottom of the grip in addition to the ones affixed to the roll. This shifts the whole horizontal assembly to the side to offset the balance as necessary. You may want to first move the RED to a more comfortable position away from the side arms so that you have plenty of space for later adjustments...

Hi all,

What is the current latest firmware for both the iPhone / iPod Touch assistant app & the DJI Ronin Gimbal?
I seem to only find the assistant app or software.

I'd also love to know what improvements there have been with the firmware builds and if there are any problems with current firmware build.

Thanks in advance!

I am on version 1.4 of the Mac DJI Ronin Assistant. It is reporting that there are no firmware updates for the IMU. My version is 2.1. I am seeing on the DJI website that version 2.3 is available, but I don't know how to update it if the DJI assistant doesn't see it. Any clues on how to get the update?
Thanks.

Curious if anyone has had any issues with the Ronin overcompensating on fast pans. Mine randomly started doing this today. It pans but when I stop moving it hits the end point then quickly backtracks a bit, then steadies out. Running a stripped down Epic, external power through a flex cable, and Sigma 18-35 lens.

Peter (or anyone else) can you post a youtube video showing a the shift the entire horizontal tilt arm (didn't find any online). I have no redvolts to put in the sidehandle so I count that out. The other option would be to remowe the sidehandle wich gives room for further adjustments for the brain to move all the way to the side. Then it probely balance but i like to keep the sidehadle on.

Also i decided that i want to mount a batteryplate (v-lock) on the ronin handle bar and run power down to the epic from there. What is the thinnest and best cable for this and what battery plates do you recomend?
I know lipo batteries are popular to use but i prefer to use redbricks as the power source. I have no clue if p-tap is the way to go from the battery plate.

Hi all,

I have a question regarding mouting the Ronin on a car hood. Se attached photo. When I'm turning the car the gimbal rotates and gets a new start and end point. For example I want to be able to rotate the gimbal 180 degrees facing the same direction as the car. Now when I make a turn it gets out of position. Is it possible to avoid this or can I only use it when I drive straight forward?

Not sure I quite understand your problem. But this might solve it.

Set your pan endpoint to 0. This will allow the gimbal to spin endlesslessly with no endpoints.

If you are in "manual" mode. the gimbal will always point in the direction you left if no matter what the car or who is holding it does.

If you are in "smoothtrack" mode then as soon as you are done panning it will auto pan to where ever it needs to to follow the movement of the car.

SO to recap. Set your endpoints to 0, flick the switch on the remote to manual mode. go shoot.

Hello!

I am looking for a Ronin owner in Chicago...anyone?

Thank you,

Dji,
can you add an extension to the DJI Assistant App:
Couple the accelometers / Gyros from the Iphone, and send the data back to the Ronin.
We stick the phone on some Carbon rods and we have an instant Freefly MIMIC a like setup.

Thanks in advance ;)

Frank, did you figure all of this out?

I am also looking at that article and needing more help. Got my Red and light bridge in the last day...have had the ronin for a while but need help figuring out everything I need and where it all goes.

If you have any pics or advice that you learned it would be greatly appreciated!

We have a serious issue with our ronin.

When it powers up, the motors do not engage. The Bluetooth won't connect to any device, and it's completely unresponsive to the remote control.

At some point the motors will engage and it just spins uncontrollably.

We need help ASAP!!!!

It has the current firmware updates.

Hey guys, I just got a gig for next week with my Ronin but I'm gonna need a set of arm extensions cause the lens we'll be using is quite heavy.

I'm local to LA but I can't buy a set from the usual places since it's the weekend, they're all closed.

Would somebody local be willing to 'rent' me their arm extension?

You can PM me or email: arnaud -a-t- stereocorp3d -d-o-t- com

Thanks in advance.

Anyone having issues with getting through to DJI support? I've called them more than two dozen times in the past 3 weeks, and every time, it tells me their call volume is high, and to call back later. Doesn't matter what day or time I call, same thing.
I shipped my Ronin to them on July 8th. On the 30th, I finally get a message saying they've received it. I'm pretty fed up with this kind of service, frankly, and I probably won't ever buy another DJI product because of this experience.

I need help with The DJI Ronin. Had it for months and still haven't been able to balance it. Everyime i turn it on it starts going crazy spinning around all over the place. I would love to pay someone that understands it to meet up with me in brooklyn or the NYC. Will pay! Thanks!

Hey guys,
This may be a common isseus that I should probably read this threads but I am bit time crunch now that I am looking for some help. BTW, DJIT Ronin supports are the WORST customer service ever since they moved to Orange Country. They literally dont answer email or phone. The hollywood location had a such an amazing service that this sucks so bad for the people used to their good service.

Anyway, after upgrading the firmware to IMU3.0 everything stopped working correctly. I donwgraded to 2.3 but still have similar issues. Almost lost two clients cuz it made us look like moron. There are several problems with it but main problems are

1.) It loses Roll as I pan. It loses Roll as time passes. Like in 30 seconds after Ronin is on, it is pointing to another direction somehow.

2.) It sometimes doesn’t know the center. After calibration, it still doesn’t know. 20% of time, center seems to drift including the Roll. It is about 40 degree off in every axis. Also, sometimes it drifts the center as times goes by. For example, we turn on Ronin and walk away. Then come back, it is pointing to totally different direction.

3.) On single operator mode, the gimbal shouldnt come back to center all the time. We tried changing all the functions. Smooth truck on/ off. Remote functions. It still slowly drifts to the center that fucks up my frame when I am within my end point. Changed the deadband as well and same issues. It used to hold the direction within the end point I think. This is super annoying and I can’t get my shot right.

Please let me know if anyone is having same issues or found the solution for it. If anyone is thinking about upgrading firmware, I dont recommend it. If it is working right now, I say keep it same.

Mine did the same thing as did 1 other Ronin in my city. We both sent ours back to DJI for repair.
I think you'll have to do the same.

How do you even send a Ronin for repair? Where can their repair it? I'm in Mexico btw, but I'm willing to send it to wherever. Mine just does the wild spinning thing over and over.

Adrian - can please re-check that both the GCU and IMU cables are properly connected to the base under the camera plate. I would even try un-plugging them (check if there are any damaged pins) and re-plugging again. To access the IMU cable - you will need to unscrew the break-out box and detach it from the base. If that does not help, try the following (you will need one extra person to help you):

Try holding the gimbal as you power it up (hold it strong to make sure it does not slip, which could potentially hurt you) - this will overpower the motors and force them into protective shut-down. Normally the motors will restart after a while by them selves - so have a friend to help you and try "killing" the motors using the remote, while you hold on to the Ronin. Whether the motors are killed or not - just connect the Ronin via the USB cable to your computer and use the PC app to update the firmware. See if that resolves your issue...

Best of luck,

Peter
