DJI RONIN PRO SUPPORT

Also....

Today, "DreamRide" is out! It was a drifting short (ala Ken Block gymkhana but on a budget) .......Anything that was not on sticks was on my ronin. We mounted on the chase vehicle via our CineMilled "Universal" quick mount plate. "Crane" shots also done with the ronin and the cinemilled plate. Check it out and enjoy! ..... I just wish they let some shots go on longer!

Shot on RED DRAGON of course....

Great BTS article on speedhunters website.... You can see me holding the ronin on the golf cart in one of the pictures.... I have to post more from this shoot it was awesome.

More importantly so did the Cinemilled "universal" mount made the article also! Yeah! Seen there mounted on the end of our speedrail/menace arm "Crane"

With the pan arm extension installed will the ronin fit inside the DJI travel case?

Also do you think there will be a future need to extend the tilt arms, say with large setups or top heavy setups?

With the arm extensions it fits in the case no mods......with the PAN extension, you need to do just a bit of cutting. Or you can bolt them on at location.

Tilt arms? Well.....this is obviously something we are looking into as now with extensions you can easily get too top heavy and run out of tilt tube adjustment. The easiest remedy is just to move "something" in my case in the video it was the Cmotion receiver mounted to the bottom of the 15mm rod. This gave me enough bottom weight to not have to be slammed at the bottom.

Is it sometime we will come out with? I can tell you it's very likely

I had a questions. I have the XL arms installed and put an f5 in, lot's of space on the back now, which is great. But now the pan axis is actually to short to properly balance. Normally you would align the pan with the holding bar, and tilt it a bit and it shouldn't move to be balanced. But now i would have to move it further backwards than then possible because it's too short. Am i doin something wrong or will DJI also come with a bigger pan axis XL or something that you could replace yourself?

Look a few posts back....we release a Pan extension that will fix this problem. Also, I made a great video where I go into balancing and install

Pedro I am having the same issue as Max. I have the longer C arms installed. Which pan arm extension would you recommend for the c arms? Long or short? I'm running just a dragon with an anton bauer brick on the back.

The Long...but it depend on the height of the battery and your battery adaptor plate also on how much weight you put up front. You might get away with the short but you will have total freedom of camera build with the long version especially give the length of the C arms.

This is just my opinion.....but the C arms are just waaay to long. I understand you have already purchased them and it is too late for you but .........

First of all you can run a battery on the back and a not so lightweight Leica summilux and mattebox with the cinemilled 40mm arm extensions.........so 80mm "c" arms are way too long IMHO

My setup from a recent shoot....

Why is this bad?
It puts the rig farther from your body than it needs to be.
it puts the weight farther away center of rotation and therefore the weight has a higher leverage ratio on the pan motor, decreasing the pan motor performance. Everything you can do to minimize this helps.

With the setup I pictured above I had the pan perfectly balanced. Even so given the weight on the gimbal and my extended arms if I whipped the rig hard enough the pan motor would go limp for a sec until it recovered. This is just what I mean by the more weight you run and the longer the arms, the smaller your performance envelope.

Now I shot for 2 days in SF flying up and down hills rigged up to a electric vehicle chasing joggers....and the ronin did great. That said I was aware of the fact and made sure to be even smoother in my operation. I was operating in "followmode/majestic" the whole time btw...

So it's just a word of advice from someone who has been using the ronin in the wild for over a year (since I was a beta tester)....... the more extreme the shooting conditions, the more the ronin has to stabilize in terms of movement the more you should minimize any extensions and weight to ensure optimum performance.

to give you an idea......I have balanced a F55 with a fujinon 19-90mm (superheavy and long) and a battery on the back....it looked a mile long. Once I balanced it.....I could walk around the rental house and follow someone slowly. The motors struggled but it could even tilt up and down. But as soon as I wasn't careful the motors would give out.

I have even seen a arri amira on a ronin.....but here is the moral of the story..... Just because it fits....just because you can, doesn't mean you should do it.

maybe if the ronin is mounted on a crane and you don't have to change pan directions to fast you can make a super long heavy setup work.....

This is what lead me to only release a 40mm arm extension. Because even with that length you can already put camera build on there that challenge the capabilities of the system.

So if you have C arms (80mm).... you will hit those limits sooner with the same payload as the mass is twice as far away as with the cinemilled arm extensions which are 40mm.....

Just food for thought.....hope this makes sense and informs any possible future purchases

any questions let me know!

Back on the topic as we're supposed here to talk about the "Pro Support"...
I have an issue for months with my Top Handle and I've been discussing about it with the DJI Pro Support mentioned here in the first post.
After 10 exchanges, they told me to write to the European support based in Germany.
There was no record of our conversation so I had to explain them the story and the issue from scratch... Same conclusion as the International Support, your Top Handle has a manufacturing fault, please send it to us.
I sent that thing before Christmas break mentioning it's urgent and paying for the express shipping, they replied: "no worries, we're opened during Holidays..."
No update so far so I contacted them this morning and they replied that they received the Top Handle three weeks ago and they haven't checked it...
In the last reply, they told me that they don't understand why I sent it in express... Looks like they don't understand my disappointment.
It seems that the reseller didn't wait three weeks or three months to charged my card for the DJI Ronin when I bought it early August...
Almost three months now I'm having that issue and nothing has changed...
Did you say PRO Support? It looks like the exact opposite to me.

Edit: I received an email yesterday in which DJI Europe apologies for the delay and the confusion.
There are a lot of DJI products on the market and I guess sometimes things can be complicated when it's rush hour.
Anyway it looks like my problem is now solved.
Euro customers, don't hesitate to contact directly DJI Europe when it comes to hardware issue, it might help you save some time:
support.europe@dji.zendesk.com
Once again, a big thanks to Peter Majtan for his support.

so i have the pan extension now, works great, but then the next problem comes: The tuning stand is to short now to easily hang the camera in. Is there already an extended tuning stand, or a little piece that fits on the back and moves it a little bit forward? how are other with the pan extension doing that?

You could do what he's doing in the video, slide the end of a boom arm from a C-stand into the hole on the end of the top handle.

100% the way to go. The best option. You can adjust the gobo arm on the c-stand to precisely the length you need.....it's available on any set.

On my last shoot I asked the grips to rig it up on a rolling combo stand and it was even better since I could roll it around.

Hi Adam - and yes, DJI is aware of the auto-tune issues and it is working on the fix which will be available soon...

:sifone: Peter

Hi Peter,

Any update on the fixing of auto tune as I use the latest software but still can't fix the problem.

I change the stiffness to 25 and whatever value but can not make the Ronin work. At its balance position when I take out the Ronin from the stand and start moving the pan handle, the Ronin can not hold the camera and turn around uncontrollably.

Have to say that Ronin works for me sometimes but sometimes it behave very weird and I have to send it to the seller to make it works again. Dealer say that it is due to the balancing but I very sure that we have followed the balance instruction.

Pedro, I see you have two pan extensions for sale, short and long. Not sure which to buy. Typical load: Epic, V mount rear, two channel FF, summilux or similar size and LMB 5.

Help! Can not connect to my Bluetooth on my PC and also on my Android, what am I doing wrong. On my android is asking me for a PIN under Bluetooth.
