DJI RONIN Group Buy

But I don't think anyone should hand over any money to any distributors until these basic questions are pubically answer here for Redusers - that's the right thing to do.

+1! Putting money down without full information is not only risky but can also have an impact on the "power" of RUs in groupbuys over time. If manufacturers see that high-end users are willing to prepay thousands of dollars for a product that hasn't been released/and or had a single independent review, that's a bad standard.

I've seen some Group Buys go sideways - and I REALLY don't want this one to go sideways because I think it's really a great product for Redusers.

Agreed...but in the meantime at http://roningroupbuy.dji.us.com there is a clock ticking down to 3 days 13 hours...
The registration will close on June 10th, 2014 9PM (EST).

Some folks have already paid deposits to retailers like AMP so technically money is already changing hands.

Speaking of AMP: Any chance they can get over 100 units in the initial shipment? Patrick was the star of my video that started this journey. Looks like I'll buy mine from him.

PS - The product kicks ass IMO - VERY, VERY fast and easy to get up and running which is crucial in a real world production environment. From a rental house persepctive - this product is a no-brainer.

Hi Mark,

What differences if any have you noticed between what was shown at NAB and what they are showing at Cinegear?

Maybe I'm paranoid but could somebody (Willis Chung?) please explain this to me:
- What's the URL (sub-domain) http://roningroupbuy.dji.us.com exactly? This should be on the domain dji.com, not (dji.)us.com! When I visit the URL http://dji.us.com the site looks very suspicious! The main domain us.com lets you (anybody) set up whatever page you'd want to.
- Why is this website not secured? Every serious website asking for personal information is secured by a SSL certificate. This is not the case here.

I'm really interested in this deal...but I'm not willing to share personal information on a suspicious website like this. No offence, but this looks like a SCAM to me. Change it on your main domain and I'm in for the (great) deal tho.

Jean-Christophe,

that is clearly a page quickly made up specially for this REDUSER GB. Willis is based in LA and he clearly stated that DJI is in the process of creating a pro-support team to specifically handle the Ronin and pro customers like us. Therefore it makes perfect sense the have a DJI.US domain to handle this...
I do agree that SSL security should have been put in place given that personal info is required - I can only attribute this to the hastiness in which this page was put together at the last minute...
I am sure if they were trying to make a dedicated page on the main DJI site - it would have taken a lot more time and complications given the scope and intricacy of the main site that is primarily focused on consumer...

I am not excusing DJI for this - but calling it a SCAM is just little bit of over-reaction on your end...

Hey guys,
I sincerely appreciate your patience. As I just finished wrapping out of CineGear and on an airplane to NY for Adorama Street Fair, I will be answering all questions when I land this red eye flight, rest assured we at DJI are taking this reduser group buy very seriously. Thank you all.

I understand you are a real supporter of DJI but I do not believe you have any direct knowledge or contact from DJI, AMP or myself so maybe it is best to quietly observe. Your statements tend to be a bit bold and strident. At this point I believe Jean-Christophe and others have every right to be cautious until the facts emerge from DJI and AMP.

The Ronin, when I put in consideration my experiences with the Movi and 3 other Brushless Gimbals I have tested the Ronin offers an absolute NEW approach while minting the basis of the Gimbal itself, and I was already impressed at NAB and for this reason I took time to talk to Willis, and after seeing the new Ronin yesterday at Cinegear after shaking hands with Willis again, I can say that there will be NO one here that will NOT love the Ronin, and what is capable of doing with a fully loaded Epic like camera...

Balancing, unlike the other Gimbals is extremely fast intuitive and just simply great... Waiting extended periods of times for a Gimbal to get set up and balanced is a thing of the past!!

There is only 3 Gimbals that really stud out for me, and this are the ones made by G-Rig, DJI and Letus, were G-Rig is in direct competition with the Movi, and certainly a highly competitive product to the Ronin, even so some what different, and also over double the price tag, then here is the Helix which is very different and in my opinion one that actually would compliment the Ronin in certain set ups.

Not talking about any outer offerings as they have yet to prove themselves to me, in the sense as I have no tested them, and only seen partial parts or not fully working units, so the Ronin in my opinion remains an incredible offering...

Be patient and confident that you'll be taken care of, Willis is a great guy, and I know He will do whatever He can to make sure they DJI HQ understand what is at play here.

As for all fellow Reduser, all I can say is to please be patient and do not let this thread go the wrong way as n incredible efforts has been put in to here, and now that is just about to give results, every one needs to just wait a little longer and let those in charge do all that they need to do.

Not every one is familiar with Group Buys and what goes in to it, and not for this should they be attacked or tough of a lesser Company, give Willis a chance to wrap things up in NY and get all the info together and I am positive every one will be happy.

Fact remains that what I seen the Ronin do the Movi and other Gimbals out here can only dream of doing... :)

Zeb - there is a fine line between being cautions and calling reputable business (that you suppose to be at least partially representing here) a SCAM...
I have also acknowledged the many questions and concerns as valid - including those of Jean-Christophe...
Making assumptions (especially about others knowledge and connections) can be dangerous - specially on a forum like this - as we all have (hopefully) learned over the years... ;o)

My so called "statements" have single purpose (echoed by Mark L. Pedersen) - for people to calm down and take a deep breath. Once again - the question and concerns posted are very much valid and I am also looking forward to the answers. Let's just keep this place civilised in the meantime...

I spoke with Willis and Joe and checked out the rig today (along with 4 other gimbals) and the Ronin definitely looks like the one to beat. The wiring, the leveling and the 3 position modes mean a lot.

My thoughts echo some of the others here. People seem to be getting a little too worked up and DJI seems to be trying to move a little too fast. The betas out there today were the only ones on display anywhere. And they just got there a day ago! The price was just decided on yesterday! The Pro Support team is still being setup. Willis has only been doing this for a short while and seems to be in a tough position by being the whipping boy for all us anxious consumers and the messenger with nothing to withhold but very little to be able to say. It seems like DJI are just moving so quickly right now and that all of this is coming together so unexpectedly that they are possibly trying pull one over on us. But I don't believe that. I just believe that they are trying to do too much and move too fast to be prudent. The way this is all going down is merely a sign of the times. We all want it now. We want it cheap and we want it to be the best. Not to mention world-class service and next-generation performance... Immediately.

To me, if I could say one thing to DJI it would be to wait another month. Iron some things out. Cross those T's and dot those I's. You have a kickass design. That's clear. But take another month to make the case and the package and the how-to video and the support team and all those other ingredients just that much better. And that's coming from someone who is near the top of the GB list and filled out my AMP info immediately. I really think I could be one of the very first to get one.

I think a complete package with an extra sets of batts and everything I need for under $5K is phenomenal and I for one am grateful that these things even exist (brushless gimbals). I say take your time, dial in that attention to detail and make this the thing that defines you as a company in a new and positive way. Thanks Willis!

Btw Cinegear is AWESOME!

Sorry I din't mean to accuse anybody. It's just that the website http://roningroupbuy.dji.us.com looks exactly like one of those (dangerous) phishing sites. I know that the guys at DJI are really busy, but setting up a simple proper and trustworthy/secure landing page like this one doesn't take that much time. At least less time than a good looking countdown clock with nice reflection...
My 0.02 swiss francs

Cheers,
JD

Edit: I did fill out the form but just the name, country and my e-mail address. Hope I will be contacted by a dealer anyways. Yes the Ronin seems to be so good that it makes me care less about privacy...well played DJI :-)

I wonder how many people on this group buy have owned a DJI gimbal and how many have ever tried to get support for a DJI product. Calling the new support number will tell you a lot. They are not real good at getting back to you and all of the old DJI numbers are disconnected or now another company. Filling a 40' container every 18 hours of DJI product to the US is an awesome accomplishment and great design and brilliant products are not the problem, QC and customer support is. By moving forward so quickly they don't seem to be too concerned with the past.

We think they will have another hit on their hands with the Ronin and wish them the best but unfortunately have not been able to get ahold of anyone at DJI America or DJI China regarding several outstanding issues that are getting old and we are getting very concerned about and feel we have to reach out on a public forum for contact. We hope that by making a public request for some kind of contact will result in a response of some sort.

We were at Cinegear both days hoping Frank, Swift or Sidney would show up so we could ask them what happened to Dajang North America / DJI America and what is the status of our concerns.

We know Willis is a standup guy who's been here in the industry for a long time and is in the middle of a crazy storm of exciting activity and a lot of late night skype calls with China but it's unlikely he's aware of just how big of a disaster DJI (Austin) was and that there is still some clean up to do.

So AMP... Can you ship to Europe?

also interested if it would be more wise to order through AMP than a european dealer. but i think/hope Willis can clear up how much later the european dealers will get the first packages, then i think we european buyers can make an informed choice if it's worth the wait.

Thank you Arnaud!

Hi guys, we shot a little interview in 3D at Cinegear2014 with Willis at the DJI booth introducing the Ronin:
http://stereocorp3d.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=section&layout=blog&id=6&Itemid=91

This was filmed with our our Epic Atom 3D Rig shoulder mode (single operator, sorry for the shakiness and poor focus;) and you'll also see Ted Schilowitz who was giving us a hand hosting the interview.

Enjoy!

Awesome, thanks! Wish I could have gone over to the Adorama NYC street fair - pretty sure Willis would be demo'ing there, but unfortunately can't make it. If anyone from NYC can go and has any info, please do post here.

Just got off the plane at JFK. I was pissed my overseas shoot ran over and missed Cinegear, but going to catch Willis at Adorama, Any questions anybody wants asked?

Possibility of powering the RED directly from the DJI battery. In the above video from cinegear you can see the IDX brick mounted directly to the side of the RED. This is actually impressive as it shows the loads the head can stabilise - but it would be good to know if there was any possibility to power the whole system with a single battery (be it DJI or a custom). This has implications for aerials in particular...

Cheers
