DJI RONIN Group Buy

You can flip the Ronin completely over without balance/recal thereby getting it at eye level or above. You can also hold it sideways putting the cam at ankle level. I'll post a vid this weekend demonstrating this.

Cool. Thanks.

I'm a HUGE EasyRig fan. That said - the G-RIG guys made this really simple, inexpensive "G-Vest" - and it is actually is easier to raise the camera upwards and lift it in a shot than a EasyRig - which is not what he EasyRig is designed to do.

I was impressed enough to order one and I will make a little video next month comparing it to an EasyRig with a fully loaded Epic gimbal. It's obviously "rig agnostic" - so great for MOVI owners, etc. IMO.

That G Vest looks very cool and not as clunky as the E Rig. I know there are a lot E Rig fans out there but I find them to be the most awkward pieces of rig out there. Great for uber long takes. But if I don't have to use it, I avoid them.

I'm really surprised to hear you say that Mark… of all the gimbals I tried on the NAB floor, the one I was LEAST impressed with was the G-Rig. And the high price point didn't influence my decision because I never knew it before.

Depends on what aspects of a Gimbal are important to you. Power management for camera accessories / "AC friendliness" are very important to me for my clients and that was the one thing I think G-RIG really did well. Again, I didn't buy the G-RIG - just very impressed by some minor things they did that others are not doing. I'm buying the DJI - in addition to continuing to get our custom gimbal solution dialed in which is almost done (I'm sure I'll show it off on Reduser when I'm 100% happy with it) - but what DJI is doing with software really won me over.

IMO all these gimbals will continue to perform better as each of the companies copy each other and improve their software and more high torque motors hit the market. Certainly, they won't be getting more expensive :)

Also - IMO - if you are going to use a gimbal - you want the ability to a bit more agile - like a steadicam op. That's the other reason I like this vest - less clunky. But most important to me is how well it works when you want to raise the camera within a shot - and at $420 ... :)

I'm not only INTERESTED - I'm all in on this rig. I've worked with MOVI on several jobs and I know the advantages and disadvantages of that rig. And MOVI did a lot of stuff right - but it's far from a perfect solution. It drove me to hire someone to build a custom rig for OFFHOLLYWOOD - and then hire another guy to improve that custom rig and make it actually perform - which I'm still improving. I now know more than I ever wanted to know about gimbals.

I spent a lot of time at DJI - and I will just say this now - all hype and marketing aside - THIS is the rig you want.

If I don't get one of the very first of these shipped - I will be pissed. So ... Zeb ... you better deliver :)

Well that's a respectable enough statement to get me very interested; note my name :)

Mike

I'll send 'em an email. It's only $420 - but a group buy might really impact shipping costs since they are based in Austria. I'll see what they would do if I can pull 50 orders together quickly - stay tuned.

I'm in!

Iam looking at it and I will give my objective perspective here looking at this video https://revision3.com/geekbeatreviews/g-rig-valos-gimbal-at-nab-2014/

1) Looking at the NAB video this rig allows the gimbal to be supported from the rod much lower than eye level, more or less where most hand held gimbal shooters are doing.

2) Yes it goes high but its all supported by hands and no support of the rod at all, so whats the point of saying boom up high when it doesnt, its your hands that do that, not the rod.

3) you cannot go low mode, and when I say low mode I mean very low mode, with an easyrig I can rest the camera with the Gravity one 15 cm from ground level, being not very tall, at 173 cm.

4)even if this rig with te rod could support the gimbals weight at eye level, the camera and gimbal would be all over your face, since thats the natural position of the rod, it tries to line straight going upwards, and bents going lower

I have my objection about its price , but I will not point this out since I havent got one to test, so it wouldnt be fair to say this .

But all the above remarks I can say with confidence that are the case.

Its really no comparison here, at all

also another thing.

I had been an active steadicam op for many years. I have tested different vests low price, high price, back mounts, front mounts, from the very best to the very medium 500 dollar copies . Vest is a funny thing to fit to all body sizes and feel good. So one operator that can feel happy with a certain body size and a certain body vest, and another can feel very uncomfortable with it , even if the vest is adjusted to fit his body dimensions.

What Iam trying to say is that, I know people who love easy rig and people who dont, all are experienced operators, the bottom case is, it saves your back in long takes and it supports fully any load up to huge weights.

and by the way, this design of the G-RIG is an Atlas rig copy, that it has been around for quite some time, so if you want to go even cheaper go with the original

Does someone have a link to this G vest? I'm very interested in a support vest.

Nice, I didn't even read the posts lol. Glad someone else noticed that. Atlas Camera has been around for awhile and they have a patent on this.

Correct again.

I really respect people who respect other peoples inventions, and I believe that in people should be more sensitive about this , besides, if it wasnt for all those innovators , people who just copy, would never be existed in the first place.

best regards

So crazy because when I saw the G-Vest it I had a "deja vu".

Turns out - I personally know the filmmaker that created the Atlas and supported his first feature - shot on RED - and I remember he brought one in to show me once. That was years ago.

I'll reach out to him and test his vest with a loaded up gimbal/Epic - see if there's any improvements more focused on Gimbals that could be done (tension/length of rod) and see if folks here want to do a group buy of that product - it's Made in The USA after all :)

Gotta love Reduser.

Yea Michael is a really nice guy. I think he mentioned that he tested it with the Movi and it worked great. You should hit him up with a group buy deal :)
