DJI RONIN 2999 and Free upgrade to 2 day shipping

Hello Everyone,
I just ordered mine from Intellligent UAS (#2 on the DJI dealer list)
http://1uas.com/ronin1
me and 2 friends ordered one I was number 42 and will get mine in the first shipment. (lots of 50)
the reason I am posting is because she (KIM) said if i get her 10 orders I can get a free battery
i said what is in it for the people though...
Kim said she will upgrade everyone that ordered from my post free upgrade to 2 day shipping....
and they have not sold a million yet....
so if you go and place your order, online and then in the order notes field,
(free upgrade to 2 day air via KIM from Tobias) she will give you the free upgrade.
hope this helps.
also they were the first ones to know the price drop from 4500 to 3k.
thanks
Tobias
you can also call their 1800 # and ask for KiM

Thanks for chiming in gentleman. I feel better already.

I'll keep an eye out for the upcoming posts from Ketch and Peter.
This is an exciting time. Once again we are witnessing the change of the production landscape . Stabilization technology has really exploded.

I apologize if this has been answered but because there is p tap on the bottom of the ronin is it possible to run the camera off the ronin battery by simply running a 12v to tap cable and plugging it in?

I assume this would dramatically decrease battery but would be amazing in reducing weight.

No, this is not possible at this stage due to current draw. The internal cabling is not designed to carry the current needed to run the camera. The two P-tap's and the USB is there to power the accessories, not the camera...

Is it just me, or is anyone else addicted to reading the BeSteady Four GB Thread? I've been following it, daily, like the Pistorius Trial! Only its got more drama! I really feel for those involved. It's mesmerising and terrifying at the same time.

Heh heh, I'm one of those BS4 guys. All these gimbal threads are intense and have their own unique character. Ours is just filled with us wondering where everybody from BS4 went and if we'll actually get out product before the company goes broke, haha. Something for everyone! Hopefully in a year from now, none of this matters and we're all lensing some cool projects. Heard about one with an underwater giraffe in another thread, that'd be cool.

Ryan - I hope you don't mind me using your pic...:

Lol, I'm glad it's not just me… it's been especially enticing the last few days. I am also sorry for the frustrations of the buyers, but the drama is hard to look away from!

+1. Can't believe it's not scripted. From The Rise of the Ronin to Zeb's Shocking Betrayal and Defection to The Legion of Letus...now all eyes are squarely on BeSteady. Can Maks save the day before a poorly worded Piotr post brings everything tumbling down? Find out next time on Days of Our Gimbals.

I think this post just made YOU the winner of Gimbal War I :emote_head_explode:

Have been following the group buys for a while and with the recent price drop of these contraptions I must admit it is even more tempting… But there is this big question I have. Perhaps it’s already answered somewhere:

How do you control & operate your RED camera in a one person operator situation?

I know one can mount the RED LCD on the handle bar, but do you use the touch screen with your nose? And how do you start/stop recording? How do you focus or adjust the iris (with dslr lenses) while on the move?!?

And then another point of ergonomics: do you all workout and have incredible biceps?
Because holding a complete gimbal rig in front of you… phew… I fear after 5 minutes you’re done…

"Hope & Frustration", I'm thinking of producing a tele-novela inspired by the BeSteady 4 Group Buy.
On another hand I'd like to create a new thread in the "Off Topic" part in which people would bet about the issue of the Group Buy.

There are several solutions...

The "PRO" way - you have a 1st AC / focus puller who controls the start/stop remotely and can adjust camera settings (and even the iris on electronic lenses) via the REDMOTE (and now also the REDLINK apps)...

The "one-man-band" way - you can use many of these with just one hand and adjust the settings with the other via the TOUCH screen and/or REDMOTE. For things that you want to adjust during a shot just mount the respective controller (focus thumb wheel, etc...) on your handles...

There are many solutions already and you will see more and more accessories coming out as these gimbals become more common...

And then another point of ergonomics: do you all workout and have incredible biceps? Because holding a complete gimbal rig in front of you… phew… I fear after 5 minutes you’re done…

People keep pointing at differences in weight between the various gimbals, but fail to realize that your main weight is going to be the fully kitted camera with the must-have accessories (such as wireless HD, follow-focus, matte-box, filters, etc...). Many folks have problems hand-holding the RED just like that without any gimbal. With the loaded gimbals it really doesn't matter if your rig weighs 9 kg or 12 kg. it is going to be heavy and not for everyone. This is also true for other similar technologies - like Steadicam. I have flown Steadi rigs weighing at 50+ kg (RED ONE in 3D setup). You need to have certain physical characteristics to be able to use such a systems. But don't forget that these gimbals can be used on variety of support platforms as well - not just handheld...

You know guys - characterizing my actions as "betrayal" and Peter's repeated jabs at my integrity shows a lack of compassion and understanding for what I have done here. It was DJI who changed the rules on me . . . after I had produced over 250 "Interested" posts. The final straw for me was them demanding I sign a very aggressive Employment Agreement / NDA that stated they could sue me for $200,000 in Chinese court if they felt I had in any way leaked a secret. I was told by Willis that unless I signed that agreement I would not even be told when or if I would receive a beta unit to test for you guys. From my view they saw my usefulness was over since I delivered the customers and was now asking basic questions which represented the best interest of the RED Users who trusted me to be involved in this GB.

From my dealings with DJI I grew to not trust them at their word since they had no problem changing the deal on me and AMP. Watching the BS4 GB unfold my goal was to make sure anyone involved with my GB was fully informed with the raw truth. Since DJI was not willing to get me a beta unit to test (without severely limiting what I could report through their fucked up NDA) then that compromised my ability to represent RED Users.

Hein at Letus has never hinted to me to not post my unedited observations and is also a man of the highest character. I have been to his home, had dinner with his family and have unrestricted access to the factory. They are good people living The American Story of building a company from nothing through hard work and honest dealings. After being involved from the inside, there could not be a more start contrast than what you have between Letus and DJI.

So yes I changed my views and support of DJI over time. Not from lack of personal integrity, as Peter continually suggests, but from my direct dealings with them. This was my personal decision and certainly one that I feel legitimate to express without the personal attacks to my character. My NAB video and GB thread has produced probably 300-500 of the preorders for DJI. For that they rewarded me with hiring Peter who personally attacks me on this forum like a FOX News hack. From his posts it is clear that they painted a negative picture of me and my private communications with them.

The Ronin is more than likely going to be a solid piece of equipment and DJI will get their currently questionable customer service shit together over time. But for me it's too heavy and the wrong geometry to be of any use hand held. When they sort out an Octo mount then it will be of interest to me as a RED Octo gimbal.

Hey I suggested a film be made on the Great Gimbal Race some time ago! It's been so much fun reading the different threads that 4k visuals could only make it better. First the schedule/feature wars, then the pricing wars, and now a shootout at the OK corral. I hope everyone ends up happy in the end.

Zeb, my use of the word "betrayal" was entirely for dramatic effect / in the vein of a scripted drama. I didn't imagine anyone taking it seriously given my intro and the surrounding context but I'm sorry that you did and for not making it clearer. I can't speak for anyone else, but I have no doubt that you've been acting with RU's best interests in mind this whole time and that's what matters.

Signing NDA is standard practice. If the clauses in an NDA are not strong enough to serve as a credible detriment then people will violate NDAs left, right and centre. I know of people becoming numbed when they read the terms and conditions of NDA first time in their life.

PS: You always have the option to sue the hell out of a person if he wrongfully accuses you.

Would you have signed a mind-numbing NDA with a Chinese company if it acknowledged your acceptance of jurisdiction in a Chinese court? LOL

Some of us signed NDAs with Letus and I can tell you they were not mind-dumbing, nor threatening.
