DJI RONIN Group Buy

$4749.99

Hey Guys,

A price guessing game is fun. So fun in fact that why not start a new Poll thread called "DJI Ronin Price Guessing Poll" and leave this thread to the business of "Interested" and DJI announcements.

On the eve of big announcements it is nice to not have hundreds of unrelated posts to sort through to get to the red meat

BTW: when you are told that the price is going to be "less than $5K" . . . you might not want to publicly guess "$4995" since it sends a message to DJI's pricing department. You also might stay away from the poker table in Vegas. Both points = ;-)

Good point Zeb. I was going a bit low but also under the assumption that there would be another $500 of value added for the GB people.

I thought the same thing but Willis posted up a free shirt offer and we all got excited.

I was hoping to have a Beta Ronin to evaluate for you guys before you had to commit and money toward this deal. Still haven't heard back on that from my friends at DJI on this request made a long time ago. They are not exactly the most responsive, over-sharing partner I've ever had ;-)

I am expecting for my efforts a Beta unit at whatever the going price is. Just seems like the person who organized a $1.5M program should get at least first look and pass along that experience to those who sign up here so they can better determine if this is the right product for them. Seems like fair play to me. Short term memory loss perhaps

I am very surprised that they didn't supply you with a beta unit and if not free then at least at cost, not for the going price.

Actually Zeb,

Having run a couple rather large group buys before these guys should pony up and either GIVE you a demo unit, or at least a new one at 50% off. You've put in a lot of work on this, and some return should be expected.. Besides, what the hell do you think all these guys DO group buys for on Reduser.. Sure some may do it out of the goodness of their hearts, but not many.

That said, couple points: An official deal should have been struck BEFORE you started, and I am quite sure DJI might be waiting to see how many people put down a deposit. I have found that in many cases you can expect up to an 80% drop off when it comes time to pony up the dough.. This is due to the fact that it costs nothing to say "interested" and also many times the company selling the item does a paltry 10-15% off and that sends everyone walking. And we don't know the $$$ amounts people are really looking for. I found the "Guessing Game" for pricing interesting.. Some dealers do that to see the "perceived" value of an item to aid them in pricing, but what they almost always miss is that a guess of what something might cost is VERY RARELY what customers are willing to pay in a GB situation. I tell the people I run group buys for "make sure it hurts, or this will be a waste of time". The purpose of a group buy is not a lot of profit, it's to get a large number of units in the hands of a specific demographic QUICKLY. So that word of mouth can move more product... Sure they may make a little, but if they keep the markup too close to what they are selling it for, then the GB is more of an insult.

I am interesting in the stabilizer.. But I am also waiting to see how this deal goes in terms of pricing and additional value, and I also want to see how you are treated.

I'd like to think I speak for many on here.. We'll see.

Jay

If there support is bad, if their inter-personal skills are lacking or if they just don't respond to your communication, this might be a good company to avoid.

Gimals need servicing and in a pinch these are not the type of people you want supporting your film gear.

Now I just don't see the numbers. You organized a $1.5M program? Your group buy will add 1.5 million dollars in gross revenue to the company? And you are expecting to pay for your demo model? That would make you the worst sales man I've ever heard of. The worst investor circling the fringes of this industry.

$5000/1,500,000 million = .003. A third of a percent of a percent.

What are you doing man?

Without a doubt! And you do Jay, I'm very interested in a gimbal for future projects.

If more than $3500-3700 the group buy has no future I think...too close to the predicted final retail price...

I think you're getting your hopes up for a deep discount. I think it is going to be more of what is included extra/being first in line with a small discount.

The thing about GB is to make your agreement up front, not after the fact.
You should have speak with DJI and agree that if you can pull together X number of buyers you get a Y reward (be it a free unit, or monetary compensation, etc...). I know few people who approach company for GB and clearly state that they want nothing in return - just to get that company hooked. Then when a large GB is ready - they try to squeeze something out of the manufacturer...
So unless you have agreed with DJI (or AMP) to get an early/beta unit - calling them out on it at this stage is not very nice - especially doing it publicaly...

Just my 2 yen...

Reality check. Zeb never called anybody out, he just hoped to test the device before we put money on it. Jay just mentioned what some other manufacturers were willing to do. But let's all get real, here's a device that's a third the price of Movi and we all know we want it. So, let's all take a deep breath and wait for a few more minutes.

All I want is a Ronin at full GB price to test for you guys before you commit financially. Call me not nice for that I guess.
