  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DJI Inspire 1 RAW

What is the camera exposure control like? I picked up an Osmo for fun and it's a great little gizmo but the stock camera drives me mental. I spend most of my time with the system trying to get the exposure that I want and then lock the camera but then again it's a fixed aperture camera. Any feedback on the exposure controls of the X5/X5R?

Well, you can use a variety of lenses and control f stop, so it's a big step up from the X3. The 12mm Olympus, 25mm Olympus, and 45mm Olympus are all pretty great for the price. Can use ND and other filters as well.

Luke have you tried the Panasonic LUMIX G Leica DG Summilux 15mm f/1.7 ASPH lens with it?

I think the Panasonic Lumix 17mm is pretty much the same as the "DJI" lens that come stock with the DJI package. I know the DJI is an ASPH and is branded as a Panasonic lens, and its a 1.7, I'd like to hear for sure but I think its the same glass.

Would love to have someone do a real world test of the size/weight envelop of the X5R gimbal with real deal Vari ND's and cine quality lenses. The S-900 GH4 gimbal seemed to be limited to like a couple lenses / filters even though there are 100's of potential combos. The gimbal had a real narrow weight / size working range before going full retard

Same with X5R...it can only take so much weight.

Be nice to see an approved lens / filter list from DJI. Or at least their engineering specs on max weight and length of lens / filter combos. Certainly they tested to the limit and have that info somewhere.

On paper this is a game changer. Shooting raw at this class of size / weight is amazing. Drones, like race cars, are best when extremely lightweight and powerful. Weight is the enemy of performance at every level when flying. Also, every gram you add to a flying machine is an E = mc[SUP]2[/SUP] issue when is crashes into something or someone.

Oh yeah man! Beautiful crash cam. Personally I think this finally starts an argument for full size aerials vs. Drone. Obviously two different tools and shot types but...you can use a 90mm lens on this thing!

You could also stick the hand held unit on a long stick and pretend to get drone shots. hahahahaa...

Yes I'm impressed with our little tests as well.

I will be getting the full kit.

To cheap to not have one in the bag !

Your little JPG from your DJI graded up well. Even though I only spent 5 seconds on it.

Just had a look at the full size JPG. Quite impressive, especially considering the price point of the entire system. If you hadn't told us, I never would have guessed that the shot is coming from a DJI camera. However, I'm sure your grading helps in that regard ;)

They have a list of them on the site here (under the compatible lens section).

I don't know why they say "photography only" for the 45mm. I have used it for video. Even just for tripod in the sky shots it's pretty awesome. To be that close to your subject on a drone is something I have only experienced in a full size heli. Pretty crazy. Can't fly too fast or you get shaky results but go slow enough and you can even get some great moving shots. The 25mm is even better.

Ha ha, yup. That was my initial thought as well. Developing a carbon fiber jib that breaks down into "backpackable" sections and can extend to upwards of 30 ft. Lightweight and cheap. I mean, all you need is an Osmo, the X5R, and a long selfie stick to get crane shots. This will be that but a little more refined. I'm all excited man, I like hiking and getting to challenging locations...this makes it a lot easier to get the gear in. Cheaper, better quality, and smaller. Crazy!

Do you have any high detail shots? Something with a lot of shadows, trees and movement? These are the areas that I am most concerned with the camera performing well in.

Luke - really like the colors in your screen grabs. Are you using a LUT or quick curves and color wheels?
