I have the DJI focus follow focus. The motor went out which seems to be a common problem with the product, however they have stopped selling the motor. I went to their website it even says the entire kit isn't available. How can a company sell a product and fully stop supporting it less than 2 years later. I'm not sure why , maybe one of you know. Rather then keep investing in motors into I eventually cant find anymore, can anyone recommend a good follow focus that has been around, for around $2000. thanks.

Yup. DJI is not ready for Cine Primetime yet.

Funny, I have my father's Hasselblad 500C from the 1960's which was, until recently, backwardly compatible with the last 60 years of their products. Elegant design which stood the test of time. Like Apple, DJI is at it's core a consumer products company which expects their products to be thrown in the trash after a couple years.

2 weeks ago I had a DJI motor go toast. My 4th motor... Sent it in they wrote back that even though it was long over warranty they would send me a new one. Had it for 2 years or so.

But yes not the best product they made. To do wrong right they should simply make a new iteration and send it out to everyone that ordered. These motors simply don't last.

I think it´s a firmware thing. If you start the motor /give it power and it´s at the endstop and you don't calibrate right away the motor can happen to push towards the stop and go toast. Thats my theory.

I threw mine out, now I'm wishing I would have kept it. So do you think if I contact them directly they will sell me a new one?

Yes contact them trough their suport and explain the matter. Think they will let you buy one more.

Yes that seems like a fundamental design flaw. Can't be good for lenses either....

Funny thing, I have 2, and have never had an issue. Still original motors. Some AC's I work with prefer this system for the simplicity, and I like it for the small footprint on the camera. I guess I've been lucky...

The system works fine, is small and light, even nice I would say... until suddenly the motor burns up.
I´m sure DJI is capable of redesigning a couple of things in the motor and solve this. But I think this a marginal product for them (they sell lots of models of drones for different uses, thousands and thousands of them!), and probably given the appearance of competitors like the Tilta Nucleus M, which (given they solve their own problems... ) would leave the DJI Focus out of market, some big guy in the company may have just said "Stop this trouble-making little thing"... and that´s it.

... and I am using my fourth motor, too...
Spent $2,000 in the original kit. Then $579 (I think) in a second motor to have a backup, plus $76 in the long clamp for the motor, plus a couple of extra cables... some $2800 on the whole, plus 4 motors traveling from Buenos Aires to California and return...
So, waiting eagerly for better results on the Tilta Nucleus M and expecting to see pricing on the future Teradek RT one-motor stuff to see where to go...

I agree, when it works its great, and simple . Turns my Canon Cn-e lenses with no problem and good accuracy. it sucks about the motor thing.

Good riddance. My motor lasted three days on a feature and my battle with DJI customer service lasted three months. I am really excited about the new Cmotion motors with built in receiver that will have the same form factor.

The email they sent me back when I asked if I could buy direct.

Thanks in advance

Surprised no one has mentioned the Tilta Nucleus M yet, is a game changer for low budget wireless FF.

Right, although still correcting problems and shipped in very limited numbers... I´m monitoring it, will probably go that way . May well be the strongest reason as to why DJI discontinued the Focus...
