Hello All!

We just recived our DJI Focus from CVP here in the UK. So we decided to do a little unboxing and quick overview video for those wanting to learn a little bit more about the unit if anyone is tempted to purchase one.. spoiler ITS GREAT!

If anyone wants to know anything else about the unit I would be more than happy to answer any questions in relation to the unit !

This is also my first unboxing video infront of Camera anyfeed back on that would be great!

Enjoy !

Hey Jonny... That's a pretty good review... Very helpful.
One quick question, do you think the motor would have enough torque & the build quality to handle CP2, Ultra Primes or any similar lenses for more pro work??

Keep them coming... You are good with reviews :)

As we didnt have any "pro" level lenses with us at the time - it was difficut to estimate on torque. But I think with lenses such as Cooke's/ Master Primes which have quite a light focus wheel it will have no problem, from what I remember about the CP2's/ Ultra Primes in comparison with their "stickier" focus wheels I think with the High Torque settings will be able to drive the focus wheels at a resonable pace - if you are trying to do quick racks from INF to CF in under a second I feel like it will suffer - but how often are people actually doing that ?

I think with normal work usage DJI Focus will be able to drive almost any lens - obviously the benefit of Preston and the other pricer examples the Torque out of those is unreal - I will be sure to do a follow up video with it along side some other FF units to see if it is true in reality.

But I think it will be fine.

Great review. Thanks!

The DJI Focus should work with any modern, smooth lens. I use it with my Angenieux zooms and Xenon primes and I would imagine that CP2's wouldn't be any issue.
I haven't tried, but i imagine that if you throw an old superspeed that is stiff, you might have issues...

So got the DJI focus...
charged it.
hooked it up.
connected it with the motor by pushing the little pin hole button.
went to calibration.
Selected Automatic.
The motor drags the lens to both end stops. (a little FD 17mm with not much tork needed and quite short focus swing)
Then the hand controller stays at "begin.."

I can sellect stop or back if I select stop I can calibrate again, if I select back I get back to the menu but I can not move the lens by spinning the dail on the controller.. What to do?
I assume the calibration should say done when the calibration is done why does it not Finnish the calibration?

Any tip for a new would be much appreciated?

Can it add throw distance? Meaning a half-turn on the unit translates into a relatively smaller turn on the lens barrel?

So, I finally bought it.

For now one of the worst decisions of 2016.

With fw 1.4 (the one it was shipped with) it was A JOKE.

Completely unusable, marks were off and no precise AT ALL (especially end stops).

I don't know how you guys can be happy with your units as far as precision go, you probably had very low expectations from this unit!

Also the hand controller is heavy as hell and I think its weight has been increased "artificially" to help it to be perceived as more expensive.

It makes no sense, it makes it quite uncomfortable to hold all day and quite unbalanced VS other units on the market.

But the worst thing is that to correct the problems with the end stops and marks (lack of) precision,
I then tried to update the firmware to 1.5 (you have to update 4 yes FOUR components in this system, absurd).

In this process the motor radio update failed (which is common apparently since in the manual describe the force upgrade procedure) and now it's not detected anymore.

Guess what...the force upgrade works only IF the component is detected, but it's not in my case so now I have a WIRED only FF since I can't upgrade the motor radio module.

I did the force upgrade on the motor fw itself to the 1.5 again but no luck, the motor radio is not detected by the update utility anymore, even after minutes of waiting.

Last thing...probably will not surprise some of you...DJI support is the shittiest I have ever dealt with, in my whole life, they simply cut&paste the manual without really helping at all.

I tried chat, email (EU), email (US), chat again with multiple different choices/areas with different operators, all the same.

So, for now, it definitely is NOT recommended.

Just save some $$$ and buy RTMotion (my primary system) or an Axis1. You'll never look back.

Anyone knows how to proceed or some direct contact to the support stuff??

Or maybe I'll just take it back to the reseller?

Hey Tommaso, posting the exact same post in 3 different threads makes it all very confusing. I replied to you in one of the other threads...
