  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

demo reels

All shot on RED in Asia.

right off: the time code and watermark are really distracting. any way to get rid of those?

i'll send more constructive feedback when i have more time to watch this more critically. over all though, great looking reel!

dear lord, that is one sexy video ( Bicentennial ). Perfect storm of great locations, subjects, and lighting. The V/O at the end is really the only awkward part of it. I would expect a female voice.

I love slow motion, but when its used this much it does make me question if it is becoming a crutch. But this is more a general comment, and not specifically targeted at your work.

Hi all, I recently was fortunate enough to win best cinematography at the worlds largest short film festival "tropfest" which is based in sydney australia (even though i have a red the film was shot on a 5dmk2 for a variety of reason if you are interested why you can watch the film here http://vimeo.com/20230217)

Anyway winning made me get off my ass and cut a new reel! All shot on a variety of formats, all comments welcome :)

My Reel

I'm still just an undergraduate student DP at a very small film program. None of the footage is from the Red -which I hope is ok for the forum- but I'd love some of the talented people here to see some of my work.

For an undergrad, it's pretty good, shows a lot of promise. I'm going to keep my criticism to two key points.

1. There's a lot of darkness in a lot of the shots with no focal point... like no point at which the eye can comfortably land 'cause everything seems underexposed. Maybe you could argue having this in a moment in a feature, but on a reel, not so much - it could play against you in a professional review, I'd bump those mids and highs and see if there is some image there ofr get rid of them. The additional problem is that it happens several times, so a reviewr might think it's a regular problem.

2. There are a handful of shots which are very mono saturated which standout... they seem a little flat rather than stylized.

3. can you color time some of the footage which has extremely green skin or was the green skin what you were going for?

But overall pretty promising. Keep at it.
