I just called Red to inquire about the delivery times for SSD cards (the only viable
media storage for my Red One at this time).

The answer: "Place your order with a deposit and we will contact you when they
are ready for shipping. Could be a couple of week or a couple of months - we do not know at this point."

Seriously guys ??????

Don't see anything wrong with that...they are being realistic

128s and 256s are in backorder as there has been a massive surge in orders recently.
The 64s are in stock.

What about the Red One side SSD modules? I had a Red Drive on order so I have been told I am high on the list but haven't heard anything yet. Is my order waiting for 128GB SSD's?

I've had an order in for a 64GB SSD since Jan. 29th... Did I miss an email notification?

EDIT: Bomb Squad added the 64GB SSD to my pile of other accessories ready to ship.

Yep - and I have a camera that needs drives. Otherwise it is a very expensive door stopper. That is my reality.
I have been buying equipment from different manufacturers for over 15 years now. But that was definitely a highlight.

Deanan,

Thanks for your post. So what about the modules ? What is the waiting time on that ?

So there was a surge in SSD orders recently. I quite honestly do no find that terribly surprising
considering that Red Drives and Red Ram have been discontinued and the only alternative to SSDs
are completely outdated 16GB chips that give me a running time of about 10 minutes...

Correct, the line is a lot longer for 128 and 256. On the 64, we are a lot closer to completing the backorder on these since we have more units in stock to allocate to fewer orders. Given the even greater demand for 128 and 256 recently, we are ramping up production accordingly to meet that demand.

Yes, it can take a few weeks for more parts to be procured and production to ramp and begin delivering units in greater quantities when we see spikes.... We are going as fast as we can.

Kind of a package deal. So, as your media comes available, the module would be fulfilled at same time. If you want the module without the media or vice versa, we can accommodate, just let your rep know.

Brent - I would encourage more realistic estimates than this. Reality is I put my SSD order in back in January. That's months to respond to a spike still with no delivery in sight - not weeks. Not complaining - just suggesting more realistic estimates. Dan B was smart and didn't give an estimate. ;-)

Keeping my fingers crossed that there will be an big increase in the SSD stock in anticipation of Epic X shipping. Build them and we will buy.

Love my Red One. I just hope we are not reaching some kind of tipping point where lack of supply of essential Red components is completely out of scale to the demand created by Red's superior technology. The beauty of Jim's vision, and the skill with which the Red team has executed it is truly breathtaking; hence the demand. But at what point do prospective users turn to solutions like Alexa or F3 that are not as capable, but are available, because they have no hope of acquiring an Epic anytime soon and/or they simply can't get the components they need to complete projects and service clients. The delay on drives and Red side modules is difficult. The delivery delay on EVFs... I've seen the pent up frustration on the list.

I own two 320GB Red Drives. I got a call today from another Red owner asking to rent one or both. I could use the cash, but am afraid to let them out. What if they are damaged? 128GB SSDs, which I have on order, are not currently a replacement solution because they are not available. Unless I want to buy 64GB drives, which I had decided against purchasing to begin with, I would have to rent. Lack of supply is driving decisions related to my business.

I am slated to shoot a feature late summer. If I don't have my Epic by then, it will be a huge financial loss of rental income.

I don't believe for a second that the Red team is being cavalier about any of this, or that they aren't working their butts off to solve it. I just wish them God speed.

These "outdated" 16GB CF cards are now being used to shoot "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" and "Contagion". No complaints from Fincher or Soderbergh... also used to shoot "Pirates 4".

Just sayin'.
