  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Deleted thread?

The thread was a moment of self-reflection on having embarrassingly forgotten an event. If there is any cause to its vanishment it may be me. I made a backhanded comment in strine that it was re-assuring that he was as capable of human fallibility of the rest of us, was not frightened to confess to the fact and that true friends are not likely to take such things to heart or some suchlike. The thread was probably past its use-by date and unproductively taking up server space. I might also be too full of my own self-importance in making this claim.

It's like parenting. When my kid does something out of line with my rules, I don't simply discipline him and move on. I talk to him about what he did and why he isn't allowed to do it. This is for two reasons.
Wrong analogy. It is like a bar, and when the bartender cuts you off or gives you the boot there is rarely an explanation.

Since Jim's thread was deleted, it didn't make sense to leave a thread that referenced to it intact. Also, from what I remember you asked people to tell their personal stories about what events they have missed. Which might have brought up some fascinating answers, but probably nothing that would enlighten us in the use of RED cameras or improved our shooting techniques. It was just too off subject to be even in the off subject section.

Happens quite regularly that we have to delete threads. I wouldn't read too much into it.

I've been to my fair share of bars and none of them are like internet forums, also generally speaking many of the rules are related to law and generally speaking it's pretty easy to work out why you were given the boot unless the amount of alcohol rendered you memory of the incident useless.

That is simply not true. The entire purpose of the off topic section is discuss things not related to Red :p Seriously, if your contention that there is a "good chance" that non-Red related posts will be deleted, why is the off topic section full of threads that have nothing to do with Red?
Nothing new, actually. I've just tried to open a public discussion because of recent tragic mass shooting :( It didn't last more than a few minutes, off topic section or not... LOL :X

I'm not a moderator, but I've been around for a good while. There's a bit of an unspoken rule about politics and global news being discussed here that doesn't pertain to technology related news. There are better places for that sort of conversation.

Reduser is primarily focused on discussing Red camera technology and topics related to this industry.

As written, nothing new. The point is that at times, the principle near 2000 years of age (so, dare you to call it 'customary law') based on «vis maior est cui humana infirmitas resistire non postest» aka 'force majeure' should rule over anything, constitutional amendments or not. For some reason, they are amendments ;-) And the principle based on the rule of territoriality aka jurisdiction either. Any other rules follow (written/unspoken forum rules included ;) Or the International Criminal Court of Hague would have never existed and the crimes against humanity there judged would have never been possible to condemn.

It is a law graduated by one of the oldest law schools in the world who's addressing these words BTW.

The fact that this same guy ended a film school
...gives even more responsibility in order to know when we can or even must say something. Or to act like Pontius Pilate, as already posted... speaking of the devil outside in this real(ly) crazy world, where we normal citizens and our families live and move and have our being* :)

This is the common error... to think that there are not accomplices. This industry also has had a sad contribution on this tragic panorama. Not only political fumble. Ostrich effect won't change the reality.

How much more is necessary to happen just for having both society and industry (reflection of the first one) to think about it?

Exactly.

Thanks, Phil.

Emanuel, please do not start the thread again that was deleted yesterday, and I see no need to discuss its closure.

If you want to discuss non-RED cameras, there is dvxuser, and for other topics there are plenty of arenas where one can have heated and/or intelligent discussions about pretty much anything. Reddit comes to mind.

Matt,

It was about how Jim forgot the day of the Hobbit premiere in NYC. He thought it was the next day and ate dinner instead of going to the premiere. He said it was the worst day of his life...

Let try to get this one deleted as well. I missed Jim's thread, what was it about?

P.S. the mods will not notify you if they delete your thread.

Martin, aside the merit of your words and the usual political issue, this industry has had a determinant role over the history itself. It is enough to follow the statements produced around the facts, (and actually) a very personal journey followed by the characters involved in the events, where so often it is easy to conclude that the reality follows the industry as its perverted inspiration. Food for thought.

I do want to point out that even in Martin's answer to me (the first half of which is fine, and all that needs to be said), he points out essentially my issue with the strange moderation of this forum. The "off topic" forum has no description besides it's name, but there is apparently some idea amongst the moderators of what type of off-topic discussion is cool in the Reduser off-topic sub forum.

I think based one what Martin is saying is that the off-topic sub forums purpose is to capture Red related topics that don't quite fit into the other 20+ sub forums. Wouldn't it be simple to have Jason add a description along those lines to the forum to remove any doubt over what is or is not inappropriate for this board?

Either way, I got the answer I was looking for and thank your to Martin for the explanation.
