  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

December 23rd Holiday Update. Upgrades , New orders, EVFs , Etc.

the new side handle is not shipping soon.. but it is so fucking awesome. I should have some prototypes next month to finally start playing with and I am pretty sure I won't be able to keep it to myself for very long.

O and while we are talking about slow but worth the wait... the new side handle is not shipping soon.. but it is so fucking awesome. I should have some prototypes next month to finally start playing with and I am pretty sure I won't be able to keep it to myself for very long.

Would be awesome to have some sort of estimate as to when we might see weapon side handle available to ship and a heads up if red volt or or (better yet) V2 red volt goes inside it to power camera. Cheers!

No battery inside.

+1.

Offhollywood is supposed to have a battery thing for hotswapping

Paglink does hot swap sort of

Well, it ain't cheap but it has everything you need to create a complete camera system with proper IO and hot swap. So if the camera ways roughly 5-5.5 pounds with monitor (s), top plate, handle, etc not counting lens, matte box, FF you're adding 4 pounds with vLock batt so you are 9-10 pounds before lens and MB. Call it 12-15 pounds total.

That doesn't sound like a heavy camera package compared to an Alexa. And frankly the body itself is almost too small for balancing in hand held situations IMHO without it getting too front heavy and forward.

IMO, without a hot swap solution we've got a gaping hole in the ecosystem.

Agreed. Also a bummer for us mostly solo operators who have to hike and ski with red cameras for various jobs.

Was really looking forward to shaving off a pound or more from Epic Dragon for these gigs. Looks like I will just gain that right back in battery/module weight.

All and all for me still worth the switch to from Epic Dragon to Scarlet-w for the following reasons:
(mind you I am just trying to justify the work its going to be to sell epic dragon and make this switch)

1) No cords coming from monitor + ability to attach both evf and monitor without cords
2) Auto Black Shade
3) Smaller
4) Slightly better in low light
5) Faster boot time??
6) Less power consumption??
7) Slightly better color science??
8) Acquisition of DICM2 accessories for future sensor upgrade path.

Am I missing anything?

Only things I am loosing out on this switch that I can see is 6k, faster frame rates at 5k, and no side handle with battery unless third party comes through.

Id be interested in comparing Alexa mini or Amira with the dsmc2 system weight wise as well. Cuz it does add up if you want to say hike the woods alone with camera system and media management system. I can handle it but always wanting to kit better

They're not the same vertical footprint as a Weapon/Scar-W, but the Switronix batts look to be about an inch shorter than a typical V-mount (Bluehsape, etc.). Right now that seems to be the most low-profile option I can find. Looks like there might be more options coming down the pipeline though.

V-Mount & SLIM versions.

Joshua,

I wonder if those switronix are short enough to work with the top handle installed with the v-mount module? Might be a stretch still, but an inch might make the difference.
