  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

December 23rd Holiday Update. Upgrades , New orders, EVFs , Etc.

That was foolcat he showed you...
foolcontrol is all your fault and happpened just after that.

Thanks for the ride and happy holidays :)

Ha ha funny how that happened ;) Fixed.

Jarred: Any way you could jam a Gig-E connection on the Vlock Base I/O?

We underwater guys (I know - we're a PITA:wink5:) need that for the foolcontrol cable option (wifi doesn't penetrate water) and the REVOLT expander (only current option) is kind of fat for a housing and overkill for the other connections.

Maybe lose or move the USB?

Perhaps a slim V-mount battery that fits inside the profile of the DSMC2 rear end? It just needs to be small enough to keep the rig from looking too pro, even if it only lasts 30-45 minutes. Perhaps a new version of the RedVolt series that is shaped differently? With all the cell phones and laptops using thinner batteries there should be some options out there.

Any chance RED could engineer a 1" thick RedVolt variant that mounted directly to the back of the brain? It should be the same dimensions (H&W) as the rear end of the DSMC2 and similar in exterior finish. I agree that the current RedVolt form factor is incompatible with ideal side handle ergonomics. That said, I wonder if a small LiPo battery in the new school handles would at least allow hot swap and 2 minutes of fail over - maybe even allow it to hold some settings...

Cheers - #19

Like Blair says, I wonder if RED could make some V-mount batteries similar to the new Anton-Bauer cine batteries that are the same height as the DSMC2 when on the V mount. A longer one for long record times and a very short one for smallest configuration. I know they have the REDVOLTS that do something similar but V-mount is nice because when you need a few extra they are available everywhere.

I also know there are some new really slim V-mounts but they are tall and the whole point is to make it short so it seems like a part of a fairly compact camera that doesn't raise as much suspicion in those under the radar shoots.

Heh heh heh....

And short. Same height as the camera like a Redvolt XL would be nice. Though, would rather have in Gold mount.

Another idea would be an XL that is the same thickness as a standard Redvolt.

We really need a breakthrough in battery tech. At least the research is being done since we need them for electric cars.

Thank you for not making any big announcements during vacation, I can now rest in peace and stop looking for wifi!
i for one never liked the ergonomics of the side grip that was basically forced by having to fit a big redvolt inside of it, but please consider possibly a dc input so we can use your belt clip set up for that dslr palming run and gun type shooting, that would be a huge benefit!
trying to use a side grip and carrying a big battery on the back really makes no sense, waaaay too heavy. The whole point in light as possible, thanks again brent and jarred! Have great holidays!

I do UTR shooting all the time, seems I'm not the only one. I used to like big cameras, I thought they looked cool "lets put on the 1000' mag" but now I want them as small as possible.

Thanks for the update. I really appreciate it! It's great you guys keep us in the loop.

Heh heh heh....
Wait what? Omg, well this might settle which batteries EVERYONE is getting!
i just hope there is a compact travel charger situation as an alternative, doesn't matter if it takes all night!

Heh heh heh....

Well I'm going to guess a third party company may fill in that gap.
"Lots of great 3rd parties have joined the 3rd party program ( including some companies you will be very surprised to hear making stuff for our cameras)"

Controls yes.. Battery no. ( at least not our version)

Will it work on the mx aswell or is it pure weapon? Always been a fan of the side handle and its great news that Red working on a new one.
I like to se a few more more buttons on it.

i would second this as an underwater shooter. Just finished a job where we used foolcontrol tethered to a Mac for about 70% of the shots.

I'm sure something can be done between Foolcontrol and the CTRL (RS232) port on the Vlock Base I/O :)
