Then, can anyone explain me why the Canon offers a 35 mm sensor with 21 megapixel for under 3000?

Ok. Why not a competitor for the new Canon with a competitive price? 10000 is not competitive. Frame rates locked to 30fps. Full frame 30 mm sensor though.

Why doesn't Canon make a full frame sensor model that does real 100fps motion for under $10K?

Real answer... because it is an honest 5fps camera. And frame rates cost real money.

Jim

Competitive? I think you meant "crippled". The only thing the 5D2 has going for it's video mode is great DOF and low light performance. But, in the end, the video still looks like ass at 30fps and highly compressed. You guys have to get it out of your head that sensor size is everything. It's not. The end result is what matters.
That's why Red would have a role to offer.

I understand your point. The fact is they have a business oriented for still photography. You not. Maybe they would offer it.

Now you have the idea...

Canon is oriented for still frames ONLY. RED is both.

It's only doing 1 frame at 21 megapixels. If it was doing 30 frames it wouldn't be selling for $3000 or whatever the price is.

You didn't catch my edit. I think they are not interested to go on your route. The fact is the full frame technology is available for under 3000. This is what matters.

Hi Jim. Would you be able to say if the fixed Scarlet bests or is equal to these other 2/3" cameras: F-23 (Sony CineAlta) (2/3", 1080p); Thomson Viper FilmStream (2/3", 1080p)? Thank you.

Matters for what? Shooting stills only? If someone wants to shoot stills only, the Canon is a great choice. But why is that a point here? This is a stills AND motion discussion. Trying to make a price comparison between a stills ONLY camera and a stills AND motion camera doesn't seem to be making much sense. Once again... real frame rates cost real money. If you don't need them, buy a Canon.

Jim

Jim, is there any reason why you couldn't use 2 different brains for 3D work? Like say, one FF35 scarlet and one FF35 epic. Or do they both have to be the same model brain?

Sorry... I'm taking some time off. (shakes his head...)

I understand your point. The point is we had all a hope you would offer your products not for the market price. Red One is there. Granted that, the new prices are a disappointment.

A disappointment? Are you kidding? What camera prices come close? What other cameras actually can do what we are offering? I really can't believe you posted this. How about we measure cost by the pound? That makes about as much sense as "price by sensor size". Unbelievable...

seriously?

you know, there is a free camera store down the street...oh wait, no there isnt, it actually costs money to make what they are making, and for the prices they are making it for...find any other camera even CLOSE...oh wait. THERE ISNT ONE.

I'm sorry. I don't want you may misunderstand my words. Here everyone salute you on a route which I wouldn't consider as healthy. Their problem, not mine though. Never the less, outside, the tone I'm used to pay attention is not the same. The real world is not web.

Oh, dude... seriously? What kind of camera(s) do you own right now, and how much did it cost you?

Jim, what the heck is going on here? Have some people lost their minds? How you don't turn this over to your web team to answer some of these crazy posts is mind boggling. You are very patient.

I understand the legitimate questions and the rational thinking members of the community who are trying to figure out details so they can plan accordingly, but there have been some really out to lunch comments coming in that I just don't get.

Guys, take a step back to about 3 years ago when the thought of owning a digital camera that could get you anywhere close to 35mm film was a pipe dream. What more could you want from Red. They are pushing this technology way ahead of schedule. And they're not charging a premium to buy into it. You have to be rational abut this. Don't rain on Jim's parade. Challenge him with legitimate questions and concerns, but for his sake and all of our sakes be sane about this.
