  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Dear Jim

I wonder how heavy the Camera will be? I wonder if I have to upgrade my Merlin Steadicam and Jib from Kessler to handle more weight just thinking out loud

Well, the Merlin claims to balance cameras up to 5lbs. The EPIC, brain only, weighs that much. Granted, EPIC is a little larger, but it seems pretty safe to assume that SCARLET plus lens, grip, battery, VF, screen, etc., will be *at least* 5lbs, probably more.

Although, if it were me, I'd probably just find some extra weight to hang on the counterbalance and make it work. :)

thanks =)

You should get out of here if you are so against it. Go buy something that shoots HD then. No disrespect but I read it as you wanted something different from a company. That is the only reason I reccomend you look elsewhere.
No, on the contrary, I am very interested in the camera itself. I am just not interested in dealing with people like you. What I want is to find out some pricing info and specs info (so I can budget the purchase), not interested in pointless drivel generated by people with too much time on their hand.

You suggested that RED doesen't give information like other hardware companies. Well the date given to reveal the product has been given as early November and I know pretty much everything there is to know about the Scarlet ironically due to this forum that you typed your complaint on. 'Other' hardware companies show a shadowy shape before announcing a product with nothing but rumour sites to suggest information.

With all due repect you have been a member of this forum for over a year and have posted 40 times. Are you really saying you know nothing about the Scarlet, its Specs and its ball park pricing? Again, with all due respect who is talking drivel?

Dear Jim, as you point out I've been registered with this board almost one year longer then you, though we have almost identical number of posts. Please do the math- that means I am spending only a fraction of the time reading and posting. At this moment there were so many changes to 3K for 3K, that I honestly don't even have a clue to such questions like:
1. What is included in the package of Scarlet Fixed?
2. What is the price of the package
3 What media is going to be used to record?
4. What frame rates at what resolutions can it record?
5 What is the focal length of the lens (in 35mm terms)

Since the release date was announced I assume camera is past prototype stage and is going into production stage, so these things should be sorted by now?

Do yourself a favour and wait with everyone else for RED announcment on Nov 3rd that has been promised to have everything people want to know about the Scarlet. Otherwise get familar with search function cause this forum section named 'Scarlet' has all the information anyone would want to know of what we know up to now.

Dear Jim, I wasn't asking this bb members, I asked RED to update the page, which remains without any changes for at least a year. Instead I am being attacked by unknown people, just because I asked a simple request?! In all honesty the attacking tone by you and by Jeffrey made me re-think if I want to purchase any equipment from RED. Thanks for making my decision easier.

Feel the love.

(and read the other threads. nothing to be officially revealed till Nov. 3)

No ones attacking you but all you have to do is use a search bar. If you want to discuss and compare different companies mods tend to move threads. Am I wrong here mods? If you don't want to buy a RED that is your own choice. I have nothing to do with your decision. Your going to meet people you disagree with everywhere, should that stop you from purchasing something you want? No, if it does you need thicker skin.

If you disagreed with a sports fan would that make you change your support for your favorite team? I'd hope not or your surely a "fair weather fan". Sorry if it appeared I was attacking you. I was just stating if you don't want to wait, and do your research on what info there is out there ask kindly and i'm sure other members will provide links. The company is keeping everything behind closed doors until Nov 3. Then everyone will know everything at the exact same time. You can even buy it that night. I'm not Jim, but based on last known specs: Scarlet fixed 3K 2/3 sensor 120 FPS, 150 FPS burst, HDRX, lens range 28-224 constant of 2.4 If I remember right. They never fully disclosed the package, but it was assumed to come with some form of power, sidehandle, 2.8" touchscreen and Media Module.

I find this site very helpful for all the knowledge of the Scarlet before it went into silence:

http://camerarentalz.com/scarlet-23-3k-lenses/
http://camerarentalz.com/scarlet-release-tracker/

Sorry if you felt attacked. But read what the big man says. If he says he's going to live by the philosophy change, he will. If you want a camera that has info out NOW and is out NOW, go buy it. No one is making you wait. But I'd be leery with other companies as well. I'd say for most major brands you really don't know any final specs until they're out. Most the time the Rumors lead you to believe its better than it ends up being. In RED's case, its usually and probably will be the opposite of that. We just don't really know until it comes out. You have a good chunk of info already. It's only going to improve from what it was if there are changes.

With all due respect, I could see the proposed specs and estimated price of AF100, or F3 a couple of month before it hit the market. It listed the specs, also listed type of batteries used, I/O connections. Hey, they actually released some shorts before they started shipping. This is what companies normally do. The also update their web page more then every 2 years, RED did not even bother to do so. RED, if you try to pretend to be a media hardware company would it be so hard to act like one?

Robert - I think you actually made your decision easier on your own with this post. Good luck getting RED to respect any purchase requests you make.

1. No one knows
2. It was speculated to be around 6,000 for the Fixed Body kit after HDRX was added if I remember right
3. The last known info on this was they were all using SSD. But there was talk of an adapter that could be added to the SSD module to take CF cards.
4. 1080, 2K, 3K, Frame Rates: Up to 120 FPS in 3K continuously, 150FPS burst
5. The fixed lens was 28-224MM

This place is getting weirder by the minute. Is this the commentary of a professional?

Hello Rob. Sorry if some seem tense or rude but it's been three years and many come in asking these same questions and it appears they did not even try and look for it. Not saying that's the case. I was taught to observe how a group interacts and works and find a way to integrate myself without causing a disruption(I don't always do this...), now you don't' have to do this but it tends to work out most of the time. And being overly kind in these situations helps as well, though it can be annoying and by no means do you have to be just don't resort to personal attacks (not saying you did).

yes I understand it can be hard to sift through all the information on this form but if you ask nicely and explain you are having trouble other users will point you in the right direction.

for example at the top of the scarlet section is a few very helpful stickies.... this one...
http://reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?22619-Scarlet-FAQs
was updated June of this year by a red employee
another is about the lens options for the two potential scarlets...
http://reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?60083-Scarlet-s-Currrent-Lens-Opportunities...

you see the thing is we just got confirmation after years of waiting that it will be released and when, so the flood of people demanding info now is kind of frustrating. After the long wait it's here and we have been told we will find out all we need to know on the 3rd. best advice to you is to save near 10k just to be safe... if anything there will be a brain only option which should be considerably cheaper than a package deal... I think.

Sorry you were upset with the responses, but tension is high these days, and deciding not to buy the product due to some other potential customers is not the best plan of action though it is your choice so don't let me stop you.

have a great week, stay passionate, positive and polite

Peace

p.s. Jeffrey I believe that is the focal length in ff35 terms not s35 but I could be wrong someone correct me if I am, the actual lens is like a 7.5-? i think... but what do I know

It's a commentary based on a "bad attitude will get you nowhere" policy that has been previously evoked by RED folks.

+1 Robert... think yourself lucky that Jim is on holidays now and probably wont read your post!

It's a commentary based on a "bad attitude will get you nowhere" policy that has been previously evoked by RED folks.

After so many, many, many years of waiting; something that I predicted many, many, many years ago; people on all sides should just shut up and wait until the final information on the camera comes out, if the final info on the real availability comes out Nov. 3. If people call themselves pros they should behave like pros and not like You Tube posters. If Red has policies those are Red policies not to be enforced or reminded by anybody else but Red itself. Mob mentality is totally out of place.

p.s. Jeffrey I believe that is the focal length in ff35 terms not s35 but I could be wrong someone correct me if I am, the actual lens is like a 7.5-? i think... but what do I know

Ah yeah, could be the case. I didn't read it as clearly. if thats the case I don't know either.

John they said it would be available for purchase an hour after the announcement, now will the announcement be at exactly 6 who knows. But considering Red's recent track record with announcing then shipping I would be very surprised if this did not come to pass. now the announcement could be pushed back, but I still believe it will be for sale after the announcement (and I don't think it will be pushed back...er I hope).

Yes it could take a while to ship it to people so the reality of when it will come to us is another story.

I'm sorry but in this world of people thinking it's okay for them to act like brats and be rude on the internet with no consequences I kind of agree with the red policy, now forbidding people from ever getting the product should be the extreme. But honestly I agree with them if you were a dick a doubting Thomas, gave only complains with no constructive criticism you should not be treated like gold. I know these are not popular opinions but I'm tired of people being rude just because they can, if you began being an a hole in a high end store or jewelery place (actually just about anywhere) knocking their wares and such they have full right to ask you to leave and refuse you service, why should red be any different. Just because it's the man himself saying it should make no difference, would you rather a cold calculated reply from the corporate lawyers? i wouldn't but to each their own.

No offense meant to anyone, and I'm not talking of anyone in specific, it's just to me these are the core issues of what is wrong with society in general, unfounded entitlement and inexplicably bad attitudes blown way out of proportion mostly focusing on all the wrong issues in life, but then again that is just my crazy view most likely horribly wrong and no better than anyone else.

have a good day and try and play nice, or fight dirty it's up to you, it's your legacy not mine!

p.s. John after re-reading your post I agree mostly, so please don't take anything I said as an offense, the first part about shipping may be my misunderstanding of what you were saying, the second part just my own rant on the red policy.

p.p.s. i speak of high end stores and jewelery stores because due to my appearance at times I have not even been allowed to enter the store let alone purchase something, and I didn't look homeless or anything not that there is anything wrong with that look... derelicked!
