  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

DAVINCI RESOLVE and ***HACKINTOSH***

@Fabian: i am a long time hackintosh user since the beginning. BUT i think, like luigi, windows is nowadays "better".
i have everything on a windows machine: a good codec (DNxHD), resolve, adobe suite, i don`t need more. i just had a hackintosh for final cut pro and apple prores but i think this area is over now.
whats better than my motherboard ideas on the ASUS P67T Supercomputer?
 
btw.: what graphics card would you recommend - now? gtx570 or 580 or even 590 for davinci resolve? what´s todays best price/performance ratio?

osx if you recommend a cheap and 470 in performance is very good, if a 590 is for windows, I did some testing with 2 gtx 580 con3gb, vs gtx 590. Basically you have a 10-15% less performance, but gains a pci-e slot.
with a gtx 590 you can do 15-19 knots with no problems, and 5--6 node full denoise(only test) in 5Kws R3D with redrocket , I think they are pretty.
Just remember to use it as a cuda, and have a nvidia for Gui.
For the rest I also expect the next NAB and maybe the new version of DAVINCI, if you will go out with ProRes, I will give away 'Hackintosh project, otherwise it will transform' my hp z800.

i do not understand what you mean. is it: when going on a hackintosh than the gtx470 is best price / performance ratio. and on a windows machine the 590? isn`t the 590 extreme expensive (about 700 euros).

so - i have a dual boot machine win7/lion with a gtx285 for premiere (just normal cutting). and would like to make a new pc for resolve - i think since resolve is for windows and dnxhd is the new pink (apple prores) there is no reason for osx anymore (of course osx is soo much more beautiful to work with - and windows is ugly - but you know ... performance is even more important)

if you only use windows I suggest a gtx 590, very good performance and uses only one pcie slot :)

yeah - that is what´s soo important - MUST it be a Nvidia for GUI or could it be "any" card for GUI and monitor out?

I'm also experimenting with a xfx 5770 single-slot, very good and without any kind of hack for hackintosh. NATIVE;)

i know - that´s why this card is cool (for hackintosh)
luigi, can you test it out if windows is working with 5770 + gtx470/570/580 ect. ?
i only have a 450 PSU and the gtx 285 is working with it very close to the edge :)

btw.: why do you have that much graphics cards?

10.7.3 hp z800 lion ..
ok for audio and dsdt patch ...
I'm having problems with two cards .... or rather with the Kernel of osx ...
1 video card ok, with 2 in slot 2 +5 ... there 'to .. , I have not had the injection on the dsdt, if someone confirms that it has problems with two cards let me know ..
or if ithas solved.

Well today I had a few hours to do some patch hp z800;)
I do not want the credit, I just made ​​some patched dsdt system, for the rest I wanted to use installer already made, also because I have no time.
So what works and what does not work:


OSX:
works:
2 cpu quad core 2.93 (dsdt support system to 24 cores)
20 gb ram
1 gtx 590 ok (1 gpu only) CUDA card.
1 9800 GT 512 mb (gui single card slot)
1 black magic extreme 3d
1 redrocket card;) (i like this card heheh)

configuration:
1 x4 slot Blackmagic card
2 x16 gtx 590
4 x8 slot 9800 gt
5 x16 free
6 slots free
7 x8 redrocket

Audio on board ok;)
;) yee onboard firewire is my first hackintosh native firewire on board is fantastic;)
lsi sas on board up to 8 SAS or SATA card;)
ok to usb port
2 port to the network is ok

It does not work .. but maybe ..

WINDOWS 7:
ALL WORKS;) (2gpu gtx 590)

For princio I used iATKOS L2 for the installation of base then the rest there consign the next week with the sequence until the 10.7.3;)
I hope Blackmagic do the ProRes ... I wanted to have two systems in one machine, you never know;)

So.. the best Mac in the market... is built by HP? :scared:

What an irony, just a few years ago with bootcamp, some people argued that the best PC was a Mac, how things change. :001_tt2:

Yes in this moment is better hp, Mac pro for pci-e slot ;)
 
luigi, what do you think about the new nvidia GTX 680 or 690 kepler ? 1024 cores cuda or (2x1024 cuda core for the GTX 690 ...) ...
in our Z800 it's a good idea ... no ?

I use my z800 with windows now, but when i have time i install lion 10.7.3 like you ... can you give me the DSTT and the procedure (easybeast ... etc ..)

yes 690 is a good card ... waiting....;)
you think so, but I always say that a good colorist does not exceed 10 knots ... and right now a gtx 590 is perfect, of course in windows system, for now osx drivers do not implement the 2 gpu, same pcb.
You just have some time I make a small installer Machete 2 with the extra folder and driver complete.
But to solve many problems of installation I used iATKOS L2, simple all-in default, smooth up to 10.7.3, then there are only a few steps to be performed. So everyone, even those without a Mac osx can install to easily;)
For now it is running in render 24 hours and has not had a problem in osx ...
But I want to say always, I hope that the Resolve add ProRes in windows ... :)

I have Resolve Lite on my Win7 and can write ProRes files at the output ....
 
Greetings Luigi. Great to see this thread is still very alive and well!

You may remember, but Last year i built a 3x 470 with the p6t7, with your help and had great success, and it is still my resolve machine of choice ;) Thank you again.

That machine is still running perfectly. However today, unfortunately i had a bad incident with a different older machine. It was on a Intel Mobo- DX58SO, that i had been using for a different workstation. Mostly FCP and Premiere. I'm not sure if the PSU went bad or what, but it started smoking, and small fire was right at the back of a hard drive power connection. That drive is ruined, and was part of a raid 0, but i didn't lose much. So it could have been worse.

Im not sure if the Motherboard (Intel DX58SO) is fried or not, but it won't boot. So i want to salvage what still works, and build a new machine.


questions:
- I wanted to ask your recommendation on Motherboards. Should i just get another p6t7 so the install is easy, or is there a better board out there you would recommend?
- I would like to keep my i7 965 Extreme Edition Processor for this new setup, do you think that is a good idea?
- The 470's aren't available like they were for me last year. Is this going to be a problem? what would you recommend?

I think i am going to buy a nice new Corsair 650D and Corsair PSU to go with it.

I'm installing Z800 with Multibeast with no problem. But USB doesn't work. Luigi if you can upload somewhere your edited DSDT and drivers for standard installation it would be fine. Or at least tell us what have do you edited in DSDT. I'm learning a lot of DSDT but not all.
