  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Custom Steadicam for REDusers <1800USD - Post your ideas

I just want to hear some sort of communication about the product at hand. It is good to hear that there is a delay, rather than not telling us anything at all.

I already told you about delay. I can't say anything else now.

One that i checked is that Zephyr has 28mm/24mm diameters (one of other measurements show 27mm/23mm).

Just small thing I forgot to mention. M-02 post tubes diameters are 30mm and 27mm respectively. So, it is not that it is small or something like it.
Only issue here can be many thick cables with good sized connectors.

Laing is working as fast as it can. In two or three days I'll show some of implemented features.

Can you at least comment on the features that are 100% going to be implemented if you can't give us a revised ETA? I don't see why this would be a problem unless Laing hit a major road block with a supplier/design and has to re-evaluate the design.

Two or three days hints at a working prototype being close to assembled. Whoever told you that must have recanted.

When a week passes with nothing but shade, then something is definitely not right, and that's when the speculation begins. If you want to stop the speculation, we need details straight from the horse's mouth.

+1 please let us know what is going on.

Almost all modifications from the list will be implemented. Except larger diameter center post idea and buble levels backlights :-). LEMO/SDI/HDMI connectors boxes will be also made, but will be available as option.

I am really sorry for delay.

Most funny thing is that all is right. I am pushing as much as I can here. I post all data very soon.

As far as I understand idea of bigger diameter of center post arised from two things - some guys like to have bigger diameter below gimbal to "have better control"...

This is correct..it helps with the overall feel..and with panning.

What about just beefing up the outer thickness of Center Post with some kind of overlayed smooth plastic material...has that been tried..tested.. or considered ?

I had been talking about carbon tubes used for post.

I think that optional thick rubber cover that increase diameter below gymbal area is not bad idea. I'll discuss it with engineers.

As mentioned elsewhere, the rigid smooth "added diameter" would be the primary solution as most ops operate with a smooth post. Rubber/foam/padding would be a minority solution.

1. Boom range of the arm expanded, so you can go lower and higher than with previous arm.
2. Sled pin on arm is adjustable, not fixed as previously (you can turn it and fix if you want).
3. Also low mode bracket is provided, so sled handle look like "L" instead of "7". Allow to operate lower.
4. Adjustable angle double battery mount (V mount or Anton Bauer on your choice).
5. Bubble levels present on top and bottom.
6. Markings on post allowing quickly tune and align things.
7. Upgraded post material - better and stronger carbon tubes with more carbon layers.
8. Docking bracked will have safety pin.
9. Longer top QR plate as requested, allowing better range. Will have option to mount lens support.
10. You can choose either present monitor mount bracket or 15mm rods monitor bracket, as you wish.

LEMO top and bottom boxes will be an option available later (as requires some time), enginners are working on them now.

Additional diameter solution for under gymbal control area will be provided, please post your preferences if you like rubber or plastic.

You can ask questions if something is not clear. I'll post photos, but it'll be later.

Here all is simple. manufacturer will provide solution that most people prefer, wither rubber or hard plastic.

how much will we know before the end of march? I'm walking the line between the proline and the laing but if more solid info on price/features isn't available by the time the proline group buy is finished... I'll probably lean that direction.

All modifications mentioned are solid. I'll send info about price to all interested buyers after publishing photos.

You mentioned that the tubes on the sled would be "upgraded . . .better and stronger carbon tubes with more carbon layers". Will this at all affect the interior diameter for the running of cables? Kwan had a very tough time getting a right angled lemo through the existing tubes, so concern is about anything getting narrower than it already is.

No, it just different, better tubes. Not narrower inside.

As for angled connectors, you can either make such cables permanent, or use angled adapter instead of connector.
