  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Custom Steadicam for REDusers <1800USD - Post your ideas

Vitaliy Kiselev;1170899]No, it just different, better tubes. Not narrower inside.

As for angled connectors, you can either make such cables permanent, or use angled adapter instead of connector.

Still waiting for the photo before hitting the trigger.

All modifications mentioned are solid. I'll send info about price to all interested buyers after publishing photos.

Will these modifications become part of a new LAING model eventually..? Or is this a one-time limited edition factory run for this group buy.

Is there a RED DSMC compatible 6-pin LEMO coming out of the v-mount (and at the top of the sled)?

LEMO boxes and cables will be option.

As right now battery mount has D-tap connector if you won't want to wait for LEMO boxes, you could ask for long enough D-tap to LEMO cable (either 2-pin or 6-pin).
For boxes it'll be short cable.

I do not know. Many things in this modifications are quite general, so my guess that with time they'll make it to their offers.

Will this rig be the same price as what you offered to the group buy, or is there a price change? You mentioned the connectors and boxes would be extra as an option. I dont know if the design changes come with an added price.

I did not offered any prices yet :-) I inform buyers after all photos and things will be fully published. But do not worry, prices will be good and affordable. No hikes.

Thanks for the additional info, Vitaliy. Looking forward to the rest of the pictures.

You've mentioned boxes with 2 or 6-pin lemo. Does that mean you will have an option to use 2 or 6 pin (or choose a box that has one or the other)? More to the point, will the final battery plates themselves (I use v-mount) have a 6-pin lemo out port to transmit data from "smart" batteries directly to Epic for those who want to run their own lemo cables through the post? Just want to make sure I understand what the power options will be.

I think it'll be 2 pin only boxes. One HD-SDI, One HDMI and two LEMO 2 pin connectors in each box (top and bottom).
Under 6 pin cable I mean ones that have 2 pin LEMO or D-Tap on one end and and 6 pin lemo on other.

So in either case we'd have to buy at least one other lemo cable/connector to power the camera (either a d-tap to lemo, or a cable that runs from the optional breakout box to the camera [which would actually be two lemo connectors on top of the additional j/d-boxes])?

Is there anything RED specific about the remodel?

We'll think about including D-tap to LEMO cable. But I am not sure about it. In worst case it'll be very affordable cable.

What you mean under "specific"? It had been modified according to group requests. Including ability to fly high weight camera.
If you mean power side of things, I already touched this side. We'll have optional 6 pin cables, etc.

But a D-tap is not going to communicate smart battery data, correct, so that there is really no point to having the six pins? Am I missing something?

The RED power plug is a special 6pin LEMO. 4 pins are for power (2x +, 2x -), the other two transmit the charge rate info. So you need for any RED camera a 6pin LEMO, it's just that 2pins are cold.

I didn't know that breakdown, David, so thanks for that. But you actually made my point. How can anything OTHER than a six pin output on the plate possibly transmit smart data? If the plate has a 2 (or even 4) pin lemo output or just a D-tap, none of those are going to actually transmit smart data if you are using smart batteries, correct? I ask because I have smart v-mount batteries (most don't, I understand) and use them normally on a WC/Switronix plate that has a captive 6-pin lemo cable running out of it that plugs directly into Epic.

You can't transmit smart data out of a battery plate, unless the battery plate has a special cable installed. So XLR, Dtap etc can't possibly transmit smart data (well XLR could, but you would need two extra pins for the smart data).
