  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Custom Steadicam for REDusers <1800USD - Post your ideas

Let's get organized on this PROline deal guys (and gals), we're not going to get a better offer. Even if we reach 40, that's an amazing offer and I think if we are unable to reach 80, but are able to reach 40, we should definitely take it. We need to get together on this and get some solid numbers. Believe me, this is the one we all want.

100% agreed

Anyone who has some time this weekend (March 9th or 10th) or the following (16th or 17th) to review the PROline unit in LA? It would be nice if some experienced operator could join the group. Luciano from PROline kindly offered us the possibility to test and review the T2000 the whole weekend and walk us through all the aspects of it.

Also he wrote me that he could create for us reduser members some videos on how to set up the rig and how to operate it.

PLEASE POST ALL FURTHER COMMENTS, WHICH ARE NOT CONNECTED TO THE REDESIGN OF THE LAING SYSTEM, IN THE GROUP BUY THREAD!

I still hope that the Laing customization is going to happen, for those that can't afford or don't want to buy into the more expensive rigs. I'm trying to get into contact with Tracy from Laing to discuss what the next steps are.

David - maybe ask a Mod to lock this thread and just carry on with all replies via a single thread.

It's got to be a PITA cross posting :(

And, I feel (for whatever reason) the RedUser/redesign of the Laing probably is a non starter now.

You could always start a clean/new thread if that bursts into life.

This is copy of my messsage in other group buy topic, as this topic is also dedicated to Laing case I copy it here also.

As one representing Laing on this deal (not as reseller, but as management representative, to make it as fast and smooth as possible)

I’ll try to clearly formulate all things

First, Laing asked to place offer and deal details in the closed section of the blog or in PM. All details will be known as terms and price will be agreed upon and fixed. I see fierce resistance from David on this, yet he did same for L'AIGLE and other manufacturers already as they asked for exactly same. I see absolutely no point of resistance here as no one wants fuzzy terms that mislead members. Price must be removed as it is not clear that number of modifications make it to finished variant, hence it is same misleading number that has no meaning now.

Second, I just asked how Reduser community see group buy terms now (payment methods, process, etc), so they will have them open and clear for every participant. You had some discussion about this, but I need to know view of most members. I’ll discuss terms with Laing management. It’ll be normal and open process so terms will be agreed upon by all sides.

Third, I ask you to make new voting in group buy topic. Representing all modifications from the list, to see how many people support each of proposed modification.
I made some preliminary discussions upon most modifications already and many, as engineers said, require additional details provided.
After voting will be finished we could make necessary sketches. And will discuss each modification, including viability and additional cost involved (if any).

To conclude, you are dealing directly with manufacturer who fully support this deal contrary to some information posted here. We also fully respect all other options from other manufacturers as belive that every member must choose best option that suits him.

David would you mind starting another thread exclusively for the proline t2000 group buy? Just so we know how much interest there is out there?

Sid, I do like the idea of a new thread just for polling numbers, but (especially since the Laing "management" rep has chimed in and apparently wants to salvage some kind of proposal) I'm wondering if it would be more efficient to have a single poll that attempts to assess not only what is favored between the three systems under consideration (Laing, L'aigle, Proline) but whether a person favoring a particular offer would be willing to pursue one of the others if requisite numbers to reach the best group price for their preferred system are not reached. I realize this could get complicated, but the replies in this thread already indicate that some people are not willing to pursue either L'aigle or Proline but would still be interested in the Laing (if a real, nailed down proposal is submitted in a timely fashion). I personally would most likely not participate in the Proline under any circumstances but probably would go for the L'aigle if enough #s are reached and would still be up for a Laing if numbers support that. Even if it's done by separate threads, I just think we do need some way to assess how close are far away we are while acknowledging the conditional nature of the commitments some are willing to make.

I'm working on a thread with a poll to determine which system will be purchased, but I'm trying to give every manufacturer enough time to react to the comments in these threads.

The way I see it, there will be two group purchases. One of a more expensive system (either PROline or L'aigle) and one Laing. Please give me some more days to organize the tests, so that we can decide on facts. Just one more week before we can vote

Fair enough, David. Letting my enthusiasm get the best of me. I haven't said "thank you" for all your hard work in while, so I renew that here.

In fact, you already have such voting results in other topic that had price range that members want. Just to save your time :-)

Laing will be much more interested to see voting on improvements proposals to understand how much members are interested in each one.

It is good idea to organize tests and visit manufacturers and members here must be thankful for all hard work you are doing here.

As for one week idea, I think that many people here just do not have interest and money to get rigs you mentioned, so they must be provided with faster option. Others who are not sure will wait for results of tests and inspection of ProLine manufacturer.

*Typed the CEO of Laing in a panic*

Isn't that the point? Comparisons and options for the best possible product?

We must hurry. Because if we don't then Laing may not look so great after comparison with others.

David was building a rig for himself with input from the community; he would want it to be the best for the money because he would use it himself. He took a considered approach and opened the gates to other entry level manufacturers. He would request mods to the design and then test it to make certain it worked as promised. Then the group buy, after the mods were done and verified. Why should I trust this usurper who is only interested in turning a profit for himself as quickly as possible? If the only motive is profit, not a good, working entry rig, why trust? The whole way this has been handled by the usurper makes me question the buy.

I have some issue understanding position.
Modification list present in survey is made by RedUser members and manufacturer requires members responses to implement this modifications.
Other manufacturers have no relation to this specific survey, and, in fact, topics must be clearly separated.
As for calling me "usurper", you have right to call me cat or dog, but it not makes me such.
I represent manufacturer here, if group buy will work, all payment will go to manufacturer directly, so it is not about my profit.

I'm not sure where to post this, but I have a Laing rig and I think the biggest problem that I have with it is that it's difficult to completely lock down the camera on the stage....when I turn the sled horizontal to get optimum drop time, the sled will move slightly and when I go vertical again, it's no longer balanced. I have to crank the knob that locks the dovetail to the stage with an allen wrench and it still is iffy. Also, I feel like the Scarlet's weight really pushes the limits of the arm, and the arm sags under it. It flys, but it flys a little low.

This issue is fixed and not happens on any currently manufactured models. But your case must be also carefully examined and solution fixing issue must be found.
