I have a hardwired version of foolcontrol iOS (direct lightning to camera control port cable) but unfortunately last I checked it could not be easily distributed via Apple App Store (even tho the cable itself is 'MFI' approved aka Made For iPhone)

max cable length for direct serial connection is 50 feet or so
Another option (used quite often for UW shooting) is plugging a lemo to cat5 ethernet cable directly into a MBP running foolcontrol OS X with a thunderbolt GIG-E connector... no wifi and better distance than rs232. Can also use that with iOS version but needs a gig-e router at the end of the cable... but that requires wifi -> iOS

We're really going OT here (sorry!) but... Mikael, how about adding a physical knob to the iPhone? Even without using the usb port, there are many open source projects that supports potentiometer reading over the audio jack. While I really love the focus feature of foolcontrol, I would love even more having a physical control over it!
