Flares from JDC Anamorphics (mostly Zeiss glass, not the more common Cooke lenses). All shot wide open or stopped down one stop. Some with a classic soft 1/2. Pretty fun, traditional anamorphic lens flares. Too bad they don't have much of the craziness of some Panavision glass or the old Todd AOs.

It depends what kind of flares you want. There's veiling flare, rings, etc. If you want that (usually horizontal) beam/shaft of light that stretches across the screen like above (ala Abrams) go with anamorphics, I have a fondness for Lomo square fronts myself. Another great bet are Superspeeds, especially if you can find an uncoated set.

Here is another fine example of what the LOMO square fronts are capable of. They are a bit soft, especially when compared to modern glass, but the look serves a purpose

Little Hurricane- "Haunted Heart"
Shot on RED EPIC w/ LOMO square front anamorphic lenses w/ diopters. Only the 35mm and 80mm were used.

A lot of nice stuff there. Very helpful. Bjorn, is that a motorized head?
