  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Control...

It looks like those cables might be connected to the front of the brain, with the lens extending over the top of the Gunner where the numbers 4, 3, 2, are marked. Not sure what they do, looks really interesting.
]

cables do connect to the brain front... just made a quick 'at scale' gunner config...

now dreaming of a gunner with some start stop/zoom/focus/iris dials on the handles to control electronic lenses through the cables.
or even crazier : gunner contains some quiet motors with those 2,3,4 marks ready to host a few gears and pull focus/iris on the RPP... but then why make this beauty a shoulder mount thing only ??

I can honestly say I am surprised. There are iPhone apps that let you control your Canon/Nikon cam and shows live output from it...

Would be nice if the REDmote wireless protocol was open enough so that somebody could write an iPhone app to essentially replicate the REDmote on the iPhone.

Here is my prediction: It's an extender/bridge module.

Those module interconnects don't look at all like they're the sort of ports I would expect a cable to run from. So what they'll be selling are two adapter plates that bridge power and data. Then you buy the length of cable you require.

This seems most plausible to me. If I'm not mistaken Jim mentioned optical connections between modules for long-distance use. Also, i'm not buying the cables connecting to the module front. I don't believe red would design a module that sits directly under the lens. That would mean huge limitations on rails, matteboxes, lens diameters, FF's, etc.

My first post.

I'm excited. I wanted to buy a Scarlet and shoot my thesis on it (to go against the grain of the faculty who are almost all film based), but it may not come out in time. I'm crossing my fingers that the stars will align and it will be released in time. If it isn't, I'm not hurt. It's a revolutionary design that is poised to take over the indie world, and that's fine by me.

I'll be there.

Red and White are pretty standard coloring for Right and Left audio. And I think those front jacks are the 3.5mm mic jacks we've been told the new cameras will have.

I suspect the gunner incorporates microphones or external audio inputs.

Interesting... very possible.

Okay seeing as the RED GUNNER goes infront of the camera, is attached to a shoulder mount, goes under a lens and has two cables running out of it it's either:

a) A large lens support system/front heavy counterbalance system that can take power and media or...

b)We just have no idea and it's something awesome.

Sounds like fanboyish conjecture I know, but I'm baffled. What would that thing be doing IN FRONT of the brain and under the lens?

EDIT: On second thoughts, it does look like some kind of camera mounted shotgun mic...

I like how the RED GUN is back! RED GUNNER is like RED GUN, but with Never-Ending Reliability!

I'd guess a stereo-mic.

If Fixed Scarlet really aims for the often mentioned "SoccerMums-Market" as well, it will need a stereo-mic. RED might even come up with several solutions for the whole DSMC-system... I foresee many surprises coming up...

Definitely looks like it is the front of the brain b/c when you compare these two images, you are seeing the red handle on the far side in both (I'm pretty sure). plus you can see the red coin on both images as well..

EDIT: I guess I'm behind teh curve as it appears that you guys have already deduced as much :)

It IS the front. Yea, you guys are right. There is no doubt. Look at the screw with the allen key hole. The handle in on the back. The logo. The two connectors are there. The whole thing matches perfectly.

What it is now.. no f'ing clue. But I am guessing something really cool and supa fancy. I wouldn't be surprised if it was some sort of AF deal mentioned before where you can click on a section of the image on a screen and voila. These could be the motors. Certainly not a mic though. The numbers might be the different spots where the motors would be mounted to be in alignment with the lens gears..?

Interesting. I wonder if anyone got it right already?

Has it been mentioned if Canon and Nikon mounts are both still planned for? I would really appreciate it if it could be corroborated at this point! I hope it is both prudent and wise for the business to say so now.

Maybe a projector?

DUUUDE!!! YEA! F-YEA! Makes sense! :)

Great way to "recycle" the brain. That would be crazy. Would the cable connections on the front of the brain lead one to believe so?

And what the heck are the numbers for?

Sorry guys, but I definitely think you guys might have got it wrong.

Where would the RED Gunner plug into other than the back?

This photo shows that the RED Gunner is much more viable at plugging into the back.

The cable connectors I mentioned which you can see in the other picture, where the cables are plugged.

It wouldn't be ergonomically incorrect at all. Not if a Red gunner were a projector accessory. In that case it wouldn't matter, and it might be easier since you could have the Red Mote fully charged sitting on the camera facing you (the "photocinematograprojectionist" :)) as the RG beams images forward.

The question is if the cable connectors in the front look like recessed HD-SDI's or whatever else could work.

Hey, anything goes when we are guessing! :D

Gotta have some fun.
