  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Contax Zeiss Survival Guide

Actually I'd always recommend ebay if the lens has a UV filter on it because of the fear of damaging it outweighing the not getting the best out of the lens and it's some old fella whose eyes have now gone but who treated it like his pride and joy. See also 'sadly my grandfather passed so we are selling his lenses off' listings.

At which point I'm in there like a shot. I love those people :)

Well, sadly there are sellers now on Ebay who just try to make you think that way.

I had to send back a lens that had a cheap "Skylight" filter on it. The filter was new, but the lens looked like it had seen really hard times, scratches and cleaning marks nearly like sandpaper…

And the back story was about an old lady selling the photographic equipment from her late husband, but it was all bullshit.

OTOH, I got some real nice ones off Ebay too.

Ahh fair enough. The only crappy lens I've bought on ebay, of the probably close to 100 over the last 5 years (I'm a sucker for the odd helios), was my first contax 85mm f1.4 which had a horrible grinding to the focus barrel. Other than that it's all been grand.

That said, I'm a bit scared about having ordered my new follow focus from the other side of the planet and not having a tracking number...

Haha. You and I are birds of feather my friend...

Wich remind me when you mentioned your trip in Europe.
I knew you would come back with at least one lens in your bag, you lenscoholic.
Cheers

My dad insisted on giving me his "extra" Rokkor 200 3.5 (yeah, he has two). HAHA!! I then came home and immediately bought a Rokkor 300 4.5 as well (I figured, if we're going LONG...why not go all the way right?).

But I've been slowing down.....I'm getting them all modded right now!!!

Up next...modding a full set of Jenas!!!

Hey Nick,

Just because I know I'll find you in here :)

I just saw in another thread a couple of months back you were looking at either the AC7 or Samurai Blade and a secondary monitor. Did you ever make a decision in the end?

I may well today have signed on for a job that would pay for my epic upgrade as well as a couple of bits and pieces and a monitor will be on the list, along with a Dana Dolly and if we can stretch to it, a Zeiss 15mm :)

Shot on Epic with Contax zeiss superspeeds. Wides were mostly on the sigma 18-35.

Ended up getting the AC7. Not the OLED. Just the normal SDI. So far, so good!

Oh and for God's sake man, don't start me off rebuying all the old Jenas I used to have!!

Haha. Yeah, but I'm getting picky. Only Jena ZEBRAS. The older, single coated ones. Yummy flairs and tilt shifting....!!!

Nice one. Any reason other than the savings to not go for the OLED version?

Look forward to seeing some sexy zebra Flektagon shots :)

My crew told me the OLED was weird (can't remember why), so didn't bother.

Yeah...the zebra flares and lowcon are SICK!!!

I have the OLED AC7 and am loving it so far. Nice color and really bright and crisp

Hey Tom,

Yeah I looked at it but can't seem to find any reports of people using them on a regular basis.
They are just starting to deliver the Odyssey7...the 7Q has been shipping for a couple of months. I looked at them at NAB and was quite impressed, been checking in with them ever since, and now they are finally shipping. I was ready to buy a TV Logic 056WP, but this is much better display technology and a more advanced package. I've been following some of Mitch's comments about their feature roadmap on the CML listserve and it sounds like the solution I've been looking for.

For another $1000, the 7Q is a great solution if you shoot multi-cam (which I hardly ever do) because it lets you monitor and record up to 4 streams simultaneously (even using different codecs if you want).

WOW. I'm sold.
