  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

CineGear

He's had that for a while, but he's not sharing any if it. Like somebody here won 1st division in loto, and my neighbours across the street had a big party the next night like they won it, but still nobody come an say "sorry we keep the whole neighborhood awake, here have some money.". No, no share.. :(

My wish, that Panasonic see the light, and replace the hvx200 and that 1/2.3 camera with this camera with visually lossless 12bit+ 4:2:2 4kp50/60 filming and maybe Bayer. They cut the price of the Lt in half, or 2/3rds, hey, nope, I'm dreaming again..

They did shoot it yesterday with multi cameras so I imagine there will be an edit up online soon.

Is there any way that the talk "Panel with Henry Braham and Dean Devlin" can be recorded and streamed? I can't make it to Cinegear and would really like to hear this?

Saw a picture of something I've been waiting on. RED Gold mount module. Soooo wished this would have been incorporated into the base expanded- like they have for V-Mounta. :(

Cinegear 2017 was a mix bag of experiences. There were companies who were serious and some were not so serious being there. On the plus side, RED team members at the RED/Panavision area, I'm sure most people felt they were welcomed and their issues were addressed adequately. For us, it was the first interaction with Luke, he went over and above being helpful and interactive to show us a RED Weapon Helium with an Atlas 65mm anamorphic lens on a DJI Ronin 2. Luke arranged to get a Ready Rig hooked up to a DJI Ronin 2 on set and helped us with the end user experience right there at the exhibit area. We saw him being equally helpful and caring towards others who visited the RED booth. Professionalism of RED Team members were exceptional.

Thank you Jarred for picking up the right people and training them to be who they are. And Thank you Luke for all the help and care you extended.

That being said, there were a few companies who's personnel manning booths talking to potential customers with beer bottles in their hands and clowning around. We had 6 clients with us who, collectively might have purchased or finalized to purchase products over $3.5 million during Saturdays visit. Some of them were from European and Asian countries. Then there were a few exhibitors who did NOT even bother to get down from their chairs to address people who stopped in front of their booths. In particular, a famous monitor manufacturer had two oldfarts sitting in their booth did NOT bother getting down from their chairs to talk to us. We were there to purchase or to make purchasing decisions on equipment that may augment our workflow. They looked at us as if we could not afford their $2800.00 monitor. These people have to understand we've already purchased way more expensive and better things than what they were offering. Needless to say we selected their competitor's products to purchase over theirs for our next bunch of onset and studio monitors. Come on guys, your employer spend a lot of money to have a booth there. Be respectful to your potential customer/s and yourselves. You can ignore folks who stop by, drink, and party or have fun after hours. And if you need inspiration, go visit the RED booth to see how friendly and helpful their team members are. Learn a thing or two about customer service from them guys and gals.

Phew..... I had to vent some steam there!

I'm amazed at how obnoxious some vendors can be and how accommodating others can be. And it has little to do with what you'd expect. E.g. I've found Leica to be crazy nice, and some makers of third party add-ons to be rude and dismissive.

For the most part I found most of the Red team members to be nice and helpful, however, me along with my fellow friend who came with me to Cinegear did not have a pleasant experience with a specific Red team member. First encounter with this guy was at the Teradek booth. He came over with a Red cap that the team members were passing out in the booth outside (I was not able to venture there until the end of the day). I politely asked him if he happened to know if they had anymore hats to give out, but then he rudely answered back "unless you have a one of those to trade me (pointing to a gentleman wearing a Teradek hat) you're out of luck." Then he proceeds to walk away. Second occasion was when my friend, who happens to be female, was on her way to the restrooms, this same team member proceeds to make advances to her which she did not appreciate. I did not catch this man's name but I expected more professionalism and courtesy from a person who is representing an amazing company. Especially to my friend who showed interest in the company and now is tainted to her.

Please don't get me wrong, I had a great experience at Cinegear and the Red booth was amazing but this individual Red team member's behavior was not appreciated at all.

Looks awesome, did you hear when they would release?

Was expecting a new Red module announcement, like a 5"monitor over here, but have been enjoying all the shares of the event and videos in social media. Seems like it was an excellent Cinegear for Red, so big congratulations to everyone!

Technology aside, one thing I really would like Red to make more of, is their quality apparel/and "team wear". I'm a sucker for merchandise and what I've bought from Red has always been top notch: the cap, a weapon t-shirt, etc. Would love to see a RED black , button shirt and a Jacket. That would be insanely cool. Red Team, get your (fashion) creativity to work. I'll be first in line to purchase!

How about a Red Branded trolley/Backpack that looks badass and is actually thought from the ground up to fit a dsmc2 and basic accessories inside? I struggle to find the right, proper travel trolley/backpack hybrid for my Red. And I never, ever check my camera in!

This show was such a kick ass experience ! Thanks for having us out RED and thanks to Shotover for teaming up with Kira and having the G1 on.
Going to hit the world by storm with this combo!

It was the first time I went to Cine Gear. Here is my recap of the expo:

The good:
I felt great joy being around people that have a lot o passion for this industry, I really think this good energy rubs in. The best booths by far were in stage 2. I feel all of the company's inside had the same charisma, openness, welcoming. Red was Killing a German Car ( makes you think if it was a statement for the other " GERMAN" brand, or maybe a coincidence ), that was amazing! DJI had really excellent costumer service and I loved to check out the new Spark. Panavision had also great costumer service, they dedicated around 15 min. one to one explaining the system really well, got to use the camera, lens and new EVF, all fantastic. I liked going to the atlas and Co. They where really helpful and loved their anamorphic line of lenses. They also let me play with their product. I also had the chance to participate on the Blood Road and Guardians of the Galaxy seminars. Even if short, it was nice to attend and learn from the best.
The Canon Dome was a great experience I did not anticipate, it worked great. It was great to see Ivan Agerton again and met for the first time Mark Toia, what a great person, really humble, I saw him outside of the paramount studios waiting for UBER. I also saw Graeme, but had a couple of people talking to him, so I decided it wasn't the right time to meet him.

The Bad:
Please take this as constructive criticism. This is for the Cine Gear Team. Please, put water stands every block and some snacks. Also, please, put the right amount of chairs, tables and some kind of roof at lunch time. I don't think people don't like standing up eating a burger with frys and a bottle of water, really sad I would say, and worse with a full blown sun. I think they where not ready to handle so many people, at least it felt that way. I now this is true because the next day i saw way more chairs and tables, but still not enough. And please, more variety in the meals, the everyone likes eating burgers for two days in a row, or hot dogs.

I did not feel cine gears was intimate at all, it was super crowded, maybe people are comparing it to NAB, I have never gone and I am not interested in going, but to me it was too much. For instance, they put too many manufactures in stage 14 and 15, it was way too packed. Really uncomfortable, very difficult to try product and to have any kind of interaction with the manufacture.
The worse company i visited was the ARRI booth. Literally they had a girl dedicated to stopping people from touching their lenses. If you don't want people touching your products, then put a some kind of a cage, but don't scream at them. So in my case, since I had never seen an alexa, I had to go to the COOKE and LEICA booth where they where very helpful and also let me try everything, including the alexa 65, alexa sxt, and the alexa mini. If i had a word to describe ARRI booth it would be "Arrogant".

So, would I go again, for next year? I certainly would just for the reason of being in touch with so many great professionals and human beings, I think that is the value of going there.
