  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

CineGear

That makes a lot of sense. Apple reached the same conclusion some years ago and no longer does trade shows. I suspect the reasons are somewhat different, though.

BTW have you considered doing a Q&A thread for RED owners? I think some interesting ideas might come out of that.

Been going to NAB since the mid-80'd but I'll be attending Cinegear for the first time. I'm very excited to see everyone from RU, and play with all the new gear in a smaller, more user-friendly setting. NAB is just too big, too impersonal, and too crazy...

Totally respect this decision. RED always did feel a bit out of place at NAB, but in a good way. My two visits to the RED booth in 2015 & 2016 are a big reason why I'm a RED owner today, though. Everyone I talked to on staff was super friendly and helped demystify the RED ecosystem for me quite a bit.

Looking forward to seeing the booth and fellow RU's at Cinegear...

I think it sounds like a good plan to focus on making cameras. Its easy to get spread out too thin. Everyone seems to know now how good the Red cameras are so I guess not as much marketing is needed :)

Anyone have an extra ticket for the Henry Braham Master Class? The site didn't say it was sold out but when I went to purchase it put me on a wait list. Really didn't want to miss this event.

Although I understand, I actually miss the excitement and build up for announcement days. I'm sure I can speak for many about the anticipation of the first scarlet and epic news and our first chance to buy. It was so exciting that night fighting to be first order through, and our SO list we clung to. I came out with Scarlet 213, my first red which was one of the earlier ones shipped, 2 weeks later I upgraded to an Epic. NAB 2 years ago I tried to load news on weapon from the African bush, managed to get a forged with a VV option ordered, sadly it took 3 days as cell reception was bad. The most fun was the Trooper morning. Woke up like any other day, not expecting I would end up doing the single biggest purchase ever in my life on a 2 minute decision. It's been fun, 2 scarlets, 3 epics and now 2 weapon 8ks later and loving every second.

O don't worry Michael we still are going to have lots of announcement days... they will (as they have been for a while now ) on our own terms :)

Yes, unless you are as big as Microsoft, you don't need to go into extra stuff at trade shows. Big companies are big enough to hire dedicated people to do the show.

Just be there, network, rub shoulders, let people test the gear along with everybody else's, and maybe aim for a few finished things to be ready for manufacture at the time to show off.

My favorite kind of post.

I'll be there for the second year as an exhibitor. As someone who does virtually every event trade show out there each year I have to agree, Cinegear is one of my favorites as it is much more intimate and laid back.

The only problem with also exhibiting is that you don't get as much of a chance to wander off and visit with others.

I'm a bit sad there will be no big announcements at Cine-gear but then I have a vested interest! ;)

I do think your reasons for not doing NAB are totally valid and if cine-gear turns out to be genuinely a lot easier and it's just across the road then maybe you can work out something fun to do for cine-gear. Like your big announcement could be a red video shot on whatever the lastest sensor is that you could have a "grand premiere" for, or whatever is fun for you guys. I don't know what you find fun because I'm not you but something that works. Your announcements don't have to be the same as everyone elses. You could announce a new T-shirt or something.

Just have fun and get stuff done.
