  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Cineform 4K solution?

Hello David. For those using Red cameras in a studio configuration with a switcher, does CineForm's Wafian HR-2 recorder still look promising? After video is recorded by the HR-2, what's the procedure to get it into a Final Cut Studio 2 system ?

...but Redcode is free. Kind of hard to beat that....

While we might have different post solutions, we don't need to be in competition with Red, nor do we think ourselves as competitors. When we support the Red camera, that only helps Red and it users. Different needs in post will need range of vendors to support them, we just will do our best to be strong player.

REDs solution is simple, because the profit lies within the camera and people being able to playback the files. And Cineform can be played back for free too.
I doubt we can encode in REDcode, can we ?
The encoder on the other side at RED is a built-in hardware supported one. And paid with the camera.

A combination with cineform would be a win-win. I also see no reason for competition.

We had this discussion before and Jim assured that at the right time they will look into this topic. But this is not now as they are busy getting the cams out and getting their own part of the software stack complete. After that they will look into supporting 3rd party vendors. (I hope I summarized that correctly.)

Just give them some time, everything will be worked out.

btw, a cineform subforum would rock too!

We intend to offer Red support within our Prospect 2K product, and introduce Prospect 4K for those who need. All our products have an unrestricted decode resolution, so Prospect 2K will happy decode 4K+ images but deliver to 2K CineForm targets --you can still conform to 4K using DPX, TIFF, etc.

It sounds like I can get away with using Prospect 2K for my first RED feature, since I am planning to finish at 2K anyway. This way, I suppose, I can keep the original 4K REDCODE files as "masters" in archive (just in case!), then conform all my 4K Red, 1080RGB overcranked footage, plus my 3.5K DLSR timelapse footage into Cineform 2K intermediates, and edit the whole thing that way.

Does that sound about right, David?

"first need to add CineformRAW as second codec into RED One "

IMO - not going to happen ... i think the only HOPE you can hope for is a easy/fast translation/convert from RED raw to Cineform raw ...

That is the most straight forward workflow -- taking REDCODE RAW Into CineForm 444 at 2K for edit -- there is no higher quality visually lossless compressed solution. Plus we are working ideas for other interesting workflows.

IMO, that 2K workflow is ideal for me, David. You guys are awesome. Every time I have a question, you answer it right away, online, which is so refreshing.

I love RED, but I love you Cineform guys too.

CAN'T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG? :)

Hi all...

David - do you have an estimated release date for a version of Prospect2k/HDLink that can convert Redcode? I ask because I'm planning a commercial production for sometime in mid to late October with that pipeline in mind.

How would we get our hands on Prospect 4k, btw? Definitely interested in checking that out asap.

thanks,

JT

David, can I be a beta tester? I have DLSR timelapse footage at 4K I could work with. :)

David, just putting in my vote to add 32bit per channel support in Vegas 8.
Sounds like Neo 2K Edit would be ideal.

My HOPE is a new 2K3D (100-120Fps at 2K) tapeless camera (may be RED pocket) without need to do any conversion.
Simple shoot and load RAW into Premiere or Vegas.
SI2K with CineformRAW looks like good solution, but use bulky wintel box instead of small SoC chip.
