At this year's cinec, I had the pleasure to meet Ted. He was kind enough to give me an interview. So here it is:

Enjoy! And thanks Ted for your patience  Great meeting you!

@ Zac C - Thanks :) That's actually a framegrab from the interview - see, you can do that with a 5D, too.. Cough, Cough...

@ Michael - No, unfortunately, no functional REDmote at Cinec yet.

EPIC

EPIC

Is the REDmote functional yet?

Yes it is...

...and it's pretty sick when you see an EPIC under REDmote control across the width of one of RED's sound stages.

Thanks Tobias,

great report, also Leica-C 21mm T1.4 small, fast and lightweight lens gives more power to already lightweight Epic.

I'm sure it is! Make sure you guys equip Ted with one next time he's around, heheh... It's great seeing the whole thing coming together. You guys are doing a great job!

Thanks Sanjin - and hell yeah, those lenses are really really sweet. The Hawks looked pretty nice, too, but the guys at the booth were unfriendly as hell and just wouldn't give me an interview. Oh well, so I guess I'll have to pass on them...

Haha, good question. Those Leica primes look sexy as hell!! Unfortunately, they're a little pricey for my tax bracket...

Jonathan,

if you can't afford Leica C set (must buy set but not individual lenses) maybe you can get some of Leica Summilux M (f.1.4) per individual lens.

Summilux-M-21mm-front.jpg

Leica Summilux-M 1:1.4/21mm ASPH: EUR 4.980,00 Austrian 20% taxes included or EUR 4.150,00 excl. VAT.

FF35mm, Epic 5K 100% ready, weight: approx. 580 g.

Also Leica M to Epic and Scarlet S/35 lens adapter should be very easy made by any third party vendor like a PS Technik, SCREEN PLANE, Denz,...

Great interview, but I have only one complaint: I COULDN'T STOP STARING AT THE ALIASING & MOIRÉ ON THE LENS FOCUS GEARS!!!! This is why DSLRs for video must die. :)

Nice interview, Tobias. Thanks for sharing!

:001_tongue: I'm just being a smartass. But, yes, it's awesome to see the EPIC working like that, and the touchscreen interface looks very nice. Thanks for posting!

Hey, I fully agree - I wish I coul've shot this on a different (= Epic) camera. But then, at least you guys get to see this :)

Nice interview, Tobias. Thanks for sharing!

Thanks Jeff...
