Hi to all, what do you think which one from the affordable cine zoom lenses will give for narrative style shooting the best image quality, sharpness, contrast and matching to natural face skin color look in the image.

1. Sigma Cine Zoom 18-35mm T2 + Sigma Cine Zoom 50-100mm T2
2. Tokina Cinema Vista 16-28mm II T3 + Tokina 25-75mm T3 + Tokina 50-135mm Mk II T3
3. Fujinon MK18-55mm + MK50-135mm T2.9 ( by using adapter )
4. Laowa OOOM 25-100mm T2.9
5. Rehoused Sigma stills into Cine Zoom Lenses from CINEMATICS*

* (it's a chinese company which is rehousing Sigma Zooms like 18-35mm f/1.8 and 50-100mm f/1.8 DC HSM Art Lenses into Cine)

If these are other options which i didn't mentioned, please let me know.

Hi Hayk,

I'm not familiar with cine zooms, I'm just wondering if you can actually adjust the flange focal distance that far (2mm - with adapter even more) to make the E-Mount zooms (18mm FFD) work with Komodo's RF-Mount (20mm FFD). Couldn't find any detailed info about this (surely useful) FFD adjustment function in Fujinon's brochure.
If not possible, the agony of choice becomes more bearable...if this consoles you.

Best regards,
Thomas

Don't think the E-mount zooms can be adapted. But I expect there may be RF mount versions of those before too long.

I assumed that, too. I just wanted to make Hayk aware that it doesn't work that way.
Speaking of "budget friendly", if I had to choose a zoom lens for Komodo, I'd take RF lenses, because I'd use them for photography anyway. I didn't change from EF to RF yet, but I definitely will. No hurry.
Otherwise I'd prefer prime lenses over zooms lenses.

will never happen, Fujinon do not support Canon.

Generally true. But this has been in the works for a long, long time.

Interestingly one of the benefits of Komodo being announced so early on is people can then beat on the doors of lens manufacturers and places like Duclos Lenses to begin creating tools we'll want on the day a fresh Komodo is in your hands.

The MK lenses are nice and tidy zooms, pretty damn affordable too. Expect even more options very, very soon.

Well hello there beautiful.

I've always ignored these lenses b/c of the mounts, but this changes everything. I spent the first years of my career with a Canon 18-55, really nice focal range, and you can fudge a little more length out of it by punching in to 4k. They could really be the perfect set to live with the Komodo. Only issue is it sucks to invest in lenses that only work on the Komodo. That and the mount conversion kit is several months away. But still, so cool.

As far as Sigmas go, I actually like the stills versions better, b/c they have AF. Which you probably want with the Komodo. Just be aware that the breathing on the 50-100 is really bad.

Agree with you about the sigma's 50-100mm lens breathing even in cine version, but example on Tokina 50-135mm there is no such a huge focus breathing like on sigma lens.

The 18-55MK zoom should be an excellent "kit" lens for Komodo. Useful zoom range, very lightweight, Fujinon is known for great mechanics and proper par focal zooms. Perhaps most importantly, it should have operational characteristics well suited to a wide range of motion work. Unless the lower cost optics betray it, the 18-55 2.9 MK at a little over $3K appears to be the best bargain cine zoom out there.

Define fly check out rehoused photo lenses if you are looking for budget cinema lenses as I believe you will get the best quality to price for those such as the rehoused sigma 18-35. Or if you have a bigger budget, the angenieux ez lenses are industry leading. I haven’t done much research or testing on rehoused options though so I recommend renting them to see if you enjoy it and if you get the results you are looking for in a cine zoom. Fujinon and Canon also make some great but pricier options if you have a bigger budget

I heard the rf Way better mount have 12 pins to connect lens could improve cinema look while you shooting is it true?

I’m not sure I understand the question. How would connection pins improve cinematic quality of a lens? Future lenses will definitely have internal motors but I digress.

I have a trio I really like, like really really like because they play well together and they aren't all made by the same manufacturer which is a miracle.

If you want small and ultra wide with a zoom, the Tokina 11-20mm T2.9 is pretty much a gold mine and helps flesh out that side of things when added to some of the options first posted.

Wish that Tokina 25-75 was here right now and the Laowa is still not just ready yet. Still waiting on Duclos to see how the Fujinon's fair. I think the Sigma 18-35mm T2 is pretty much also a no brainer if you are looking for shorter in length zoom that's fast and good quality.

I’m considering this as I’m definitely getting the Komodo, currently have Canon EF lenses but really keen on cine lenses and the sigma cine maybe but cinematics seems maybe too good of a price.

Anyone had any experience with this lenses? Only seen one video review on YouTube and it could have been a sponsored video so...

Cheers

If you’re just starting out, get the regular sigma 18-35 EF lens. You can get it for $500 just about any day of the week if you shop around. Great lens.

If you need someone else to focus for you with a follow focus, there are a lot of options - but they’re all gonna cost more.

I would not really recommend the sleeved Cinematics unit, it’s not going to get you anything you wouldn’t have with a couple press on delrin or zip gears on the stills lenses. If you can level up to spending 2-3-4 grand you can get some solid options for a non-electronically controlled lens. I really think stills style lenses are your best bet for Komodo for most run and gun situations.

Xeen Classic set

Xeen Classic set

I recommend Xeen after all the test I been seen with zero breathing, I think they better than cooke.

Thanks for the Advice Dan, now currently looking at the Zeiss Contax too as a friend has a few but I think the art lens as you mention is better option for run and gun.

Cheers
