  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Cheapest wireless monitor option

Assuming you are talking about the Nyrius, I think that would connect with a laptop through HDMI, then perhaps you could send to a tablet or phone via wireless or even bluetooth from the laptop?

I've used the Nyrius to connect wirelessly to a monitor before, and their overview says you can send content FROM a laptop to a TV, but I've not heard of or tried to send from camera to laptop though.

No time to test at present.

I tested a few different of those h.264 wifi options the terradeck and some consumer options... none of them will really work. They could possibly transmit picture in between their fallouts which will for sure happen quite often. My experience was they they kind of worked well when I tested them but on set when things matters they lost signal so often so in comparison to the hassel of having a bnc cable to the camera... well the BNC wins. Also they lag quite a bit. Which is super frustrating when used as a director or even client monitor. So in the end I had to bite the bullet and buy a terradeck bolt, te bolt works well enough. Not much lag and lost signal does not mean I have to go and click on some computer or antenna to make it work again as the signal comes back atomaticly as soon as the antenna is in reach. and the picture quality is much better. An ipad can not take streaming video without adding a huge lag. So I do not see them as even close to being an option. but I like to see you try, possibly things changed now. :)

Thanks for the benefit of your experience with that Björn.

My experience with the Nyrius to Dell 2k monitor was different from yours. However, I was in reasonably close proximity to the camera when I tried that. I could actually see the picture on the camera's 5 inch monitor and compared it to the receiving monitor, did not notice any lag or drop-outs.

The Nyrius I bought was the long-range model and I was no where near the purported limits, plus I always had line-of-sight with the camera so that could account for any discrepancy between our results.

But I'm hoping it will work as I outlined above as I plan to use my 2 cam as an unattended robot. That is, I will set it up as a wide shot on a scene and hopefully, see what it is seeing as the scene is being shot via my Huawei android phone. Assuming I have a gopher on set, I can have them stand behind the camera and tell them to move it so it better suits the scene.

Poor man's un-tethered video village.

Thanks for all the help last year. To sum up the op thread I went with 2 SDI monitors on the camera using pass through. I then bought an Actionproducts Eclipse 500 for another SDI wireless monitor. I'm just now looking to replace an SDI monitor on the camera for a used red touch 5 or 7" now I have more funds. Hence why I came back to this thread.

If you're for something dirt cheap, you can get a HDMI dongle TX/RX, not exactly made for production but will get the job done. Starts at around $350
