  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Canon Cine Primes. Let's talk about it.

I saw the Canon Primes yesterday. I thought they were a nice lens. As every one says if they were PL, Id probably buy but not EF mount and I own more canon Cameras than any other make. Optically and mechanically in so far as you can tell on a show stand they looked good. I am not so sure they will stand the test of time mechanically which FD lenses seem to have done.

It's a tricky one. Thankfully with the new 25mm, the CP.2s are now a T/2.1 from 25mm right through to 135mm (25, 28, 35, 50, 85, 100, 135) which is helpful, still T/2.9 on the widest-end with the 15mm and the 21mm - but they're clearly moving in the right direction.

iPanchros are gorgeous, but T/2.8, which raises the question of whether you'd just stick a zoom on the camera instead.

The Canon's clearly need PL-mount options, but I'm sure they'll get there eventually.

Personally I just think it's fantastic to have so many good options at at reasonable price-point.

Can anyone confirm that these cover the Epic at 5K? Will they cover Dragon as well?

Thanks!

EDIT: They are. Went and downloaded the manual for these lenses and it says it is full frame compatible. I saw a thread earlier that showed massive vignetting. Must've been his settings.

The vignetting looked bad in that picture, but it probably looks significantly better at a 16:9 or 2.35:1 crop of a full frame sensor rather than the entire 36x24mm surface

Well I would think in the sense that, if you are lighting a scene in which you foresee using the 14mm, you ideally would light for that minimum f stop, thus making the whole super speed, low light characteristics of most of the set not as useful.

But hey, I will deal with that if these canons show improvement in image quality from the cp2

Seriously, at 14mm I would stick with the 11-16 Tokina...

A bit far from the thread... but I got my Canon FD 85mm f1.2 L today. Not much to say except that it's a stunningly sharp lens in a superb super lightweight build. If they make the Cine lenses just like it and add a declicked iris and a gear ring that is pretty much all they need to do. But then again anything above 2000 USD would be overprice since the FD's goes for about 1k usd.

The solution!!!!!!

The solution!!!!!!

Jacek,

Can you give us rough idea when you will announce your new product?
How about an EFF (Electronic Follow Focus)
So Canon goes backwards and removes the most advanced tech- silent motors from their lenses, replaces them with gears and charges triple.
Now you have to buy a Bartek, RT motion, Preston, C-motion and deal with cables, mounts, power, etc, etc.
We have a better alternative-the choice of buying still glass and having the same control with only one plug to deal with (or none when wireless)
Check out the OptiTron thread :yesnod:http://www.reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?87950-The-Future-of-Follow-Focus-Now-Optitron-by-OptiTek

I own the CN-E prime lenses.
IMHO, they're the best cine lenses for the price.
The 50 mm 1.3 T and the 85 mm 1.3 T are both great, but the 24 mm 1.5 T is really terrific.
If you wanna see the 24 mm in action, download this still picture (http://www.yousendit.com/download/WUJhNWNnTXZ0TWxFQmNUQw) that I took with a 5D MK II last week.
The iris was completely open (1.5 T)
Enjoy!

What is with all the heavy vignettes on full frame cameras from these things. Do they cover (w/o vignetting at all) FF?

All the pictures on 5Ds look like they aren't even close.

I know Canon says they cover but where is some FF grabs without vignetting?

Anybody?

There's no vignetting at all in the original image.
I put the vignetting during grading.
I will send you the link to the original image asap.
