  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Canon 300c Specs as they come

looks not bad, but way too expensive.
but lets wait and see the low light skills...

Completely underwhelming and depressing. 20K! Seriously Canon? Don't let us down Jim- this should be a slam dunk.

What technical side? Even with DVinfo we know nothing. 10-bit? ND? Just saying you shoot log doesn't mean what you'll get in it. What ISO were those shots at? What about DR? The only thing they gave us was how they calculate pixels and what the list price is. Underwhelmed.

Ok that's $20,000. Will they wait for Red announcement, then trow in some lenses as a "set"?

I'm sure it will be a nice camera, but the fact that it can't shoot over 30 frames at max res... ????? Slow motion can be a vital visual story telling technique. That is a huge miss on their end.

This is too much for the indie market, and just doesn't cut it for the high end pros.

This was not historical.

CANON EVENT

THEY ANNOUNCE:

Camera and price point, designed to competes with...

A 6 year old RED camera.

But without the RAW or high frame rates.

EPIC competition??? You must be joking.

EPIC + FAIL maybe.

No way you would buy this over an epic if you were a larger studio with half a brain.
As an Indie... 20K.... You've shot too high.

The Sony FS100 sales department must be dancing around the halls.

Damn, Canon just lobbed a softball the only way they could.... in 720P slow-mo!

Edit to add: Really good 720P slow-mo.

It seems like Canon priced this product clearly targeting Sony F3 market (Body + 3 lenses + S log upgrade ) around 24K . Interesting they believe they will also be competitive with Scarlet...not.

Looks to me like they were desperate to enter the market. Should have waited until they had a camera that could compete. Too bad.

If Scarlet's price didn't just go up Jim's lost his mind. Sorry to say that but business is business. Here's to hoping Jim has lost him mind anyway!

Sony FS-100. That's the underrated camera of the moment. It's only missing HD-SDI and I think it's pretty close in spec to this Canon. The F3 is looking fine. EPIC remains EPIC. HDRX wins.

Congrats to the guys at RED. It's a 6" tap in for the win.

Why do you think Jim was so hurried to announce Scarlet after Canon announced this event.....Anyway who cares - just looked tonight at my profile - I've been a lurker - joined in February 2007 - 4 months after my son was born - 2 months after Jim signed on to this caper..... My son has turned 5 now and he's sharp as a tack - I've been waiting forever!!! I LOVE RED - next hour will tell us all..............
