I know there's a meaty heat sink included on this baby due to the amount of heat it kicks out.

Can i leave it on 24/7, 365 days a year though???

Since Scarlet, the camera, does not exist, you can't possibly leave it on.

Best regards,

Leo

Leo. Very helpful. Thanks. I was actually asking the questing to people who know the answer (of which there are many), but not you.

Nobody, not even one, knows the answer. As Leo says, there is no Scarlet yet. We have no details on this.

I am certainly curious - who would know the answer to that question? I have a few ethereal questions of my own I'd like to ask that person! :001_huh:

To quote Jim, there are over 200 engineers working on fixing the BUG!! I doubt they try and fix the EPIC's and Scarlet's with their mind. My guess is there are 5 test units on 'the bench' of each model, powered on, 24/7, being stress tested and bug fixed, or is Jarred just not that bothered about the FCC??!!!:banghead:

Speculation can creates false expectations so dont waste your time and enjoy the summer (if you can) ... because when you recieve camera there will be no more free time at all...

None of those 200 engineers can tell you if the final shipping version of the Scarlet can be left on constantly without issue.

Once we have a final shipping version, this will be a very easy question to answer. Turn it on, leave it on, vary the temperature within the claimed operating range, make sure it doesn't encounter any problems.

If you really want to know today, you'd better get a very fast DeLorean and take a ride in it.

I sense some urgency on your part to know about this. I'm curious as to why?

Traffic cam maybe? I hear that most of the traffic cams in my city are 5D MKii.

Got a real life version of the Truman Show to shoot? Perhaps a version of EDtv that follows Mathew McConaughey around?

I have to imagine RED will have tolerances for heat within normal operational conditions, of which 24/7 365 can’t really be considered. Those are extraordinary conditions. Doesn’t mean it won’t work though.

And to quote the forum rules, this is a real name forum. Please post your real name to this thread: http://reduser.net/forum/showthread.php?t=32432&page=99

Martin:

I thought i had read that first name and initial was good, but hey, i have nothing to hide. Name change requested!

Aaron:

I'm sure one of the 200 can! This ->:banghead: is cause i was grumpy last night. I often find that on RedUser a lot of 'good' questions get thread hijacked. If you don't know, personally, i would keep quite. If Jim/Jarred wanted to answer, i'm sure they would. Someone knows the answer to this, trust me! It's not like i'm asking for the answer to 23!

Robert:

No urgency, i would just like to know.

Just curious, Simon, what application do you have in mind for the Scarlet being on for 1 year constantly at a time? It's an interesting feature request...

P.S. What is the question for 23?

i think he is referring to 21

My bad - 21 it is!!!

Leaving cameras in places that don't have tech's is something we do a lot. Being able so see an image from a distance and control it remotely (via IP over the RJ45 connection) is something that saves us a lot of time. Put it on a robotic head and hey presto, you can full pan and tilt over IP too. What we don't like to do is leave them switched off for days, even months, only to find that when we need it, there's an issue.

Although its a 'cinema' camera, you will find that many industries have professional cameras that are left on 24/7. It just so happens though, that the Scarlet is a top spec bit of kit at a rock bottom price!

Well you could always put a fan in the housing with it if necessary!
