Hey can anyone explain how they did the effects on the performance scenes? Is it a tilt shift lens or is it a post effect?
They use it on the performance scenes and some of the argument scenes. 0:27 - 0:32, 0:43 - 0:49 and so on its used throughout.

Any help would be incredible thanks id like to use it myself on an upcoming music video shot on epic dragon.

Looks like shooting trough large bit of crystal glas or such then with some halo filter in front of lens. My trumps looks somewhat like it if I use the transparent iris discs and aim for the light source. Another trick if you want it harder / more you take an empty evan bottle and hold it infront of lens and shine a light source on it while shooting wide open.

Pretty sure that´s some (broken) glass elements or similar in front of the lens. Just do some tests with different materials, don´t stop the lens down too much, it will work better wide open. Nothing really new, it´s been used quite a bit lately.

Cheers

Hey guys I managed to get in touch with someone who was on the shoot and apparently the DOP put 2 brandy glasses 1 inside the other on the front of the lense. You guys were really close with your theories thanks for the help

I'm really into that kinda stuff. another way you can do something kinda similar is with different split diopters (but then you can have issues with hiding the edge of the filter). Recently, I cut little 4x4.56 squares out of clear and frosted acetate and then cut different shapes (and sizes) out of the middle and I can pop them into my mattebox, which is nice if you have one with rotating stages. Different people use different materials, like the plastic from a CD case or those little fesnel-like pocket magnifyer glass dealios. I know of a couple big DP's around here who have a special suitcase full of different little bits of glass they've collected over the years.

I gotta say, that's a very beautiful, kind of hypnotic "dreamlike" look. Some stuff like this you can only get on the set, and I think that was an imaginative idea if they were able to get that with just a couple of well-positioned shot glasses...

Yeah I really wasn't expecting it be brandy glasses creating this effect. I really like it, it actually suits this video well. I though it was added in post or a filter in a matte box. Just clever thinking
