It is burning a hole in my head waiting to announce on Nov. 3rd.

Jim

Burning a hole? You think that's bad? Forget 2 weeks, imagine sitting on a camera savings fund for 2.5 years with nothing to spend it on. It's burning a hole in something but it's not my head. ;)

Just announce it early!!!! no need to wait. It's okay if it ships on the 3rd sill :-) two week wait isn't bad. :-)

Can't wait. I bet there are few people looking at their phones/tablets/laptops at Canon event :)

With all of the excitement, if I had to guess, I'd say the Scarlet will be:

4K
RAW
S35
1-60 fps
Interchangeable Lens
Choice of Lens Mount
Around $8K

I have no inside information... this is just based on past RED designs and industry guesswork.

Can't wait!

Day one purchase. Easily. I mean, I can envision a lot of different possible configurations for the camera for which that would be true, but something along these lines would be the best possible combination of features, performance and price point as far as I am concerned. It looks so good that I don't even know if it's realistic to expect anything along these lines. I'd probably pour $20k into ordering Red gear and other equipment on the third, easily.

I'd also say HDRx might be taken out the Epic, especially since easyHDR is not an available option anymore. The past few months have proved most situations don't require the use of HDRx, and as this functionality must require some extra processing power, it could be a way to keep Scarlet affordable while sensor and other features grew up... But i'd be happy to see the Scarlet shot 5K too, to match Epic in post.

That would be.. AMAZING.

I'm not going to spill the beans... but I can say that some of you have over-shot the mark. Think beating the competition severely... but not impossible.

Jim

In fact, Jim, it's a well-known situation in "writing science"... The more teasing you do, the more risks you take to disappoint afterwards. A surprise isn't really a surprise if it's been announced ;-)

OK... I'm so excited to beat the competition in every way.

I guess I should be disappointed that we can't give our customers 24K at 1000fps in a 2 lb box for $600.

As much as I love reading the logic behind how others speculate what will happen, I would imagine some of the guesses have gotten a bit out of hand, even if it is all for humor and bantar. I hope this won't cause anyone to be disappointed in Jim's announcement come Nov 3rd.

Look at what happened to iPhone 4S. For many, they were expecting iPhone 5 with xRay vision and 3D. :) But many people were kinda "meh" about it, despite its sales numbers.

Yes, there are high expectations of what the announcement/s are going to be, but from what's previously been announced in the past 2-3 years, anything addional just makes this a sweeter deal. RED already build the best cameras in the world, so I'd take anything that makes them better...

Nov 3rd is only going to benefit the customer.

What's the competition in the 3K arena? Alexa?
So maybe an S35 3K Alexa beater.
And Epic upgraded to IMAX/Vista-Vision standards with native 18 stops of DR and yet even better color science and selectable Alexa-style "feel" for the Deakins types.
Perhaps...

I'm changing my tune... everyone will be wickedly disappointed in the Scarlet announcement. Go to the Canon event. That is where the action is...

I think it will be asking for two much at that price point..I will say RED will anounce :
1. The prices and specs and delivery schedule for SCARLET
2.Completion of STAGE II
3. Starting of STAGE 3
4. Special offers for STAGE 2 and STAGE 3 guys if they buy SCARLET...specially stage 3 because it will be logistics nightmare
for RED to process and keep those thousands of cameras from STAGE 3...maybe an goodies offer against keeping the camera
in STAGE 3 also...until and unless they want the RED and RED MX sensors for recirculation on a different product.

So Scarlet was going to be 3K so that's a minimum it will be in my eyes. Maybe a jump to 4K. HDRx included but not as many stops as EPIC. Frame rate was always good, to 60FPS I think, so half of EPIC which sounds more than reasonable.

The specs will be dictated by how RED sees the camera and how they want to position it it the industry. Do they aim for documentary uses? TV use? 3D use? Indy filmmakers? Or all the above...
