Hi JIm great to find you back here in good health and in fighting spirit !!!;)

M-X upgrade program is unaffected and rolling along at a good clip thanks to Brian, Brent and Kelly (and many others). No issues here.

Jim

Jim,

What concerns me is that the MX hardware is rolling off the line, but the post software supporting it is lagging behind. Redcine X (b246) is still behaving buggy and crashing often, and the new QT codec (v.4) has issues displaying the footage correctly (too dark). Like others, I have to rely on this software now that I am getting MX footage through the door. It would be great if this software could be found in once location too, regardless of it's build status.

Certainly the Epic and Scarlet initiatives are very important to your company right now, but before I would like to see new hardware offerings, I would like to have software that is ready for prime time in place for that new hardware. With out the horse, the cart will not roll.

Respectfully,

bk

Welcome back Jim. so GREAT to see you back on here with your usual amount of vigour.

This place ain't the same without you, and I for one say take the time you need to quash that bug. I certainly believe in you (and Jarred, Sean, Brian, Deanan, Grahame, Ted, and all others on your team).

And for the record, you are leaving a legacy that spans far more important things than EPIC/Scarlet. A legacy of hard work, dedication, conviction, and balls that are lessons for anyone to learn from.

It's nice to see you on here again. That's the only good news I was looking for. The camera will come.

Very glad to see you back and well, Jim. You were truly missed...

Everyone is excited to get their hands on an Epic, but I don't know of anyone who wants to see it in a lesser form due to bugs or other issues. I will gladly listen to people complain about delivery delays over complaints regarding performance any day/week/month/year.

Keep up the incredible work, and take care of that body of yours.

Best,
Clint

P.S. Your legacy is already well-established. But I'm glad you want to add a few more trophies to the proverbial case...

We have a bug. Seems like a major one. We need your support at a very difficult time. I am asking for that now.
RED operates in a unique way, with that in mind ... would it make any sense to detail very precisely exactly what the bug is? Through brainstorming and the power of large numbers maybe recruiting all your fans worldwide would allow someone outside the company to come up with a solution or valuable suggestion. Don't lose any sleep, (or get sick), over this Jim ... we all know this is cutting edge and anything can happen ... we can make beautiful movies on the RED ONE for another Ten years! We have already received full value for our investments.

While I am now back from a short medical leave... now I have to ask for your support and patience here.

We have a bug. Seems like a major one. We need your support at a very difficult time. I am asking for that now.

EPIC and Scarlet are complicated cameras. Probably the most complicated cameras ever attempted. We have a crack team on it. The amount of development for this program is unprecedented. But somewhere in the complication... we have a bug. It has held us up now for two months. We have working cameras, as you know. But we aren't going to release anything until the cameras are done and bug free. And we have stumbled on an issue that has caused us considerable grief. It is unexpected and it has us baffled.

The fix could be tomorrow. Or not.

We have been a "lucky" company up to this point. The moon and stars lined up for us for the RED ONE (since we didn't have a clue what we were doing in the beginning) and the RED ONE did all we asked. The M-X sensor is incredible... as you know. Our new ASICs for the EPIC and Scarlet are complicate times a million. And they work. Another miracle. Everything was late but on track. Then we hit a snag.

We have an army working on this. 24/7. Trust me when I tell you that we have been humbled. I have questioned our aggressive goals every day.

So what does this mean? Obviously another delay. To compound matters, the company that was to make Scarlet has made an incredible
announcement recently and has significant issues. You can probably figure out who this is. This will force us to find a new manufacturing partner for that product. When we 1st got wind of this, we decided to make EPIC in the US, hoping that the company would find a solution in time for Scarlet production. That now seems unlikely so we are now scrambling for a new partner.

I have started two companies... Oakley and RED... and have never seen anything like this in 35 years of business. We will get past these obstacles. No question about it. But we are going to need patience from our customers.

Now that I am back, I will promise to keep you informed. Good news and bad. We have added a new SWAT team to help... over 20 people whose sole job is to find the problem and solve it.

RED has pushed the envelop in every way. We have pushed ourselves and our competitors. We have laid out a roadmap for everyone what the future of image capture should be. I can only hope that counts for a bit of your consideration.

Jim

First of al very happy to see you are back Jim, even so we already knew you were better since the pic from the recent shoot with Jarred and Ted, but again happy to see you back on the Recon!!

However understood how this process goes in new development, and fully in trust of you and the Red team, I'm extremely disappointed in this Bug (not you or your Team off curse) as I wish I could have my Epic-X today, and moments like this makes me wonder if I should have pushed a bit more for been in the TATTOO program, to see if I could help in any way, even if SW is surely not my thing!

Any way just crying out to give help that I can't really give, he eh, just frustrated to see thing slow down, but also fully understand this Economy which is literally Trashing Business at a Global scale and in every direction.

Also sorry for the lost of your Japanese partner, wish you best of luck in the new find.

Nice to see you back. Hope everything is okay.

Gladly given. No rush.

Your health is what's most important. Glad to know you're okay, and ready to fight the fight. I'm ready to wait for Scarlet, and happy to follow a company with such an honest, transparent, and exciting dialogue with its customers.

All the best with your bug battle.

You have my support. I'll wait as long as necessary. I'm devoted to no other camera company but this one

welcome back Jim..... good or bad we walk along with you!

!!

Slow and steady wins the race.

The obstacles you are overcoming make it less likely that others will follow your path.

Once I'm done with cinematography and software, I'm moving into fortune cookies.

Stay healthy.

Jim, if it's at all possible, could you give us a rough idea of shipping once the bug is dead?

If this bug was squashed tomorrow, how far behind would Epic be for the start of delivery to customers?

And to risk appearing ungrateful, if there is an extended delay, any chance for a second chance at Stage 2? (ducking from other REDusers now). :scared:

Welcome back Jim! Life and time are short, but it's nothing without your health. Glad you've recovered.

Waiting for Epic-X is fine - I have more time to raise the money :)

The suggestion from Will Divine above about splitting the bug team is quite a good one. But maybe not into ten! To add my suggestion - only split into two, but with regular brainstormings where each team presents their ideas/theories to the other and critiques the other constructively. This strategy gets divergence of approach, but the meetings provide sparks of ideas for each other's teams. Also, keep the teams informal, so if a member from one team wants to move to the other at any time to pursue a particular line of enquiry they can.

:emote_popcorn:Seeing that phat avatar makes me glued to the screen. Nice to see you back Jim! I kind of wished I took the second stage now... :banghead:
