  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Bug...

Here's my idea ....
Eliminate all programming which is responsible for still image output. Only write firmware for movie footage. For the time being don't worry about the Epic being a movie camera and a digital still camera. Only include the code necessary for movie footage ... and see if the bug remains. We can live without digital stills ... there are other solutions for that at this time. No one would buy an Epic if it didn't have movie capabilities, that's what we all want.
Maybe have two separate paths in the firmware and a user choice selector ... one firmware path for stills ... and another firmware path for motion ... make it totally separate logically. Produce the Epic with movie capabilities, with digital still capability to follow .... (the fact that I know nothing about the problem won't stop me from offering solutions)

Jim,

Glad you're back and feeling better.

Understanding and patience is easy to give when I know the possible outcome of the new camera. Can't wait to see what's to come!

Thanks for everything.

Hi Jim. We're all glad you're back and giving us the straight info on the Epics and Scarlets. Above all, we're glad you're feeling better.

Glad to have you back, even if to dispense news that in the grand scheme is worse for you than us. It is just a bug, way more glad to hear you are doing better health-wise.

REMEMBER... EPIC may be EPIC, but its just a camera Jim. Health is more important that kicking anyone's ass... and M-X sensor is allowing us to raise the bar and really is an incredible innovation. I am landing NEW customers everyday with the M-X.

TAKE YOUR TIME TO GET EPIC and SCARLET RIGHT. LETS FACE IT The economy is still reeling, and none of us are going anywhere. The Gulf Oil Spill takes the cake for the worst news ever... the fact you are still alive after discovering the BUG, is the best news :)

I'm glad to hear that you are back in action and on top of the situation- thanks for the heads up. Just don't let this firmware issue cause you health problems - as no piece of tech / kit is worth a shortened life.

If anyone can get it sorted out, it is your team- I'm looking forward to hearing about the conquering of this problem, and the Epic program moving forward. :)

This isn't just a thousand to one shot. This is a professional bloodsport. And it can happen to you. And then it can happen to you again.

Full throttle does not win Le Mans.

This is just a camera. There is life to be lived as well. Glad your health is ok.

Good luck bug hunting!

Welcome back Jim. Glad to hear your health is good.
No one likes to hear bad news but your honesty is what drives RED and the honest, good and bad, has always been at the forefront of your businesses.
Look forward to hearing the resolution to the "bug" - if in doubt, just use a bug swatter!!!!

So I was figuring we were due for a post from Jim since the month was up. I was full of optimism, thinking I would see a new thread about the Tattoos being distributed out to the tester pool.

Sorry guys, I totally jinxed it!

Welcome back. Here's to clearing up any issues of personal health and technical and manufacturing health.

Good to hear the update Jannard. No matter what, health comes first so don't work too hard!

And I'll still buy a Scarlet or two when it comes out, no hurry.

I'd almost be disappointed if you didn't hit a major obstacle, because then it'd be like you were doing things well within your reach. ;)

And as my grandmother used to say, health is wealth. Here's to your health! The rest will follow.

"The road to success is always under construction"

"Success comes in cans, not cant's"

Welcome back Jim! Way glad you're feeling better. As you know, health is wealth.

As a team leader you've always been a good problem solver. You assembled a remarkable Red Team, and now I have no doubt you've put together a great Swat Team to hunt down and eliminate this bug.

We've known each other since the early '80's and you've always had my deepest respect. I've thoroughly supported you on Red since 2005 when you described to me your dream for the company and cameras. Nothing has changed on that whatsoever. You have my 100% support and understanding on this new information you posted. I know you and Red Team will solve these issues completely and press on with the business of positively changing this industry!

Your legacy? Friend to many, good dad, good papa, consistent humanitarian, superb business visionary, forward thinking manager, and oh yeah, then Oakley, now Red and thus radically changing the direction of this industry.

As you compete with the long-established camera makers in this industry, remember: "It isn't the size of the dog in the fight - but rather the size of the fight in the dog that determines the winner"

Kick some rear Jim...
