  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

BreakOut Box Prototype

When the panel is connected to the breakout box, then 4 channels can be accessed via full size XLR's. The monitor output of the box is a 5 pin output.

The box can attach to the 19mm rods at the back of the camera, or it can sit (for now) up to 30 feet away from the camera. Originally, we were going to make a panel that attaches to the camera and just carries everything to the box. This would mean having to attach the box to the rods and carrying additional weight, even if you just wanted preview out, and 1 or 2 channels of audio. So we decided to put some of the immediate I/O's on the panel itself. This will allow the panel to operate now in a 'stand-alone' config, without the breakout box.
The panel is only as wide as the full size XLR's. Without the panel most cables plugged directly in the camera stick out just as far. We are currently slimming down other areas of the panel.

I think it would be good to see all the developing/existing hardware in one place so we can prep our budgets accordingly. Make our gameplan. Rather then trying to search for the Birger mount here, follow focus there, group buy of the Arri MB20 there. You get the point.

Who do we ask to make this happen? Do we need to vote?

Break-out Box

Here is the panel that we have been working on to provide full size I/O's on the RED. The Panel can also be tethered to an Break-out Box via a DVI-D cable, or to a DVI>Pigtail connector. Shipping shortly after NAB. Just launched the site www.toys4red.com for pricing, pics, pre-orders and specs.

What I'm hoping for is an ET break out box for audio that has POTS on it to adjust the camera levels, maybe even an led system to show you the current audio levels like on a mixer (it would use usb input to send the signals to the camera). This would sell like crazy!

Rory,

We will soon have an adapter that plugs into the DVI port of the panel for HD>SD downconversion. It was originally in the design, but due to the added expense of the board, it was pushing the product over its targeted price range. The adapter will be available real soon. I'll post pics on toys4red.com when it's ready.
