  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Bomb EVF Shipping

Does that exceed the backorder?

:smilielol5:

Really though... I wonder just how many they do have on order. I know people who ordered an EVF nearly 2 years ago that haven't heard a peep. But if 50 coming in at a time is any sign, maybe they can start plowing through the orders quickly. And I would expect orders to heat up more as EPIC starts to ship.

not yet.. but alot of people that have been waiting a very long time will be very happy when they see their Fedex delivery guy soon.

Bought 2 reds since nov 2009. still no evf's. When will backlog be served? also, anyone selling a second hand evf? thanks

50???? I'm sorry that this may come off as rude, but I am guessing that my EVF will be shipping along my Epic at this rate. Sucks for me that I sold my EVF in July because we were told they would ship in August. Then by the end of the year, and now who knows when. Communication really needs to be focused on at RED. Not this "if people complain enough on reduser someone will finally post something to appease them", but preemptive communication that lets us know what's happening, when it's happening-not two weeks after it happened.

Matthew... if it makes you feel better your bitching and complaining hasn't helped at all... not one bit... not a single bit. We had manufacturing delays.. nothing we could of done about it. We arn't keeping info from you guys as you suggest. .. I have been very open and transparent regarding the Bomb EVF and progress.. Much more than most companies would be.

Yes it sucks. and yes we suck. and yes I feel bad.. but you really need to get over it.

WHAT'S THE PROBLEM?

Just kidding Matt.

I'm in the same boat.

BTW ... I like your RED reel. Great silhouetted shot in the purple MRI room.

Red does not suck…RED is the best - I mean it… but Jarred, we saw a working Bomb EVF one and a half year ago… “manufacturing delays” for such a long time? We all don’t get it…
At that point communication could be really much better… snow has gone a while ago…Tell us no excuses just explain why the promised dates August 2010 and December 2010 didn’t make it…

My guess is that the manufacture in Germany needs a serious call by Jim who tells them to ramp up production tomorrow. ;-) ;-) ;-)

J.Burger.. the EVF is much more difficult to manufacture than you would think. We took our old EVF, shrunk it in half and made it better. There is no conspiracy.. no shenanigans.. just plain old manufacturing delays. When you are dealing with precision cast parts and very high tolerance optical elements, if something isn't perfect it takes a month to retool.. try again and see if the changes worked and yield goes up. If its an electrical or something that can affect mechanical grounding, need to redo FCC testing to make sure it still passes. Rinse and Repeat. Rinse and Repeat.

And I will say it again.. It has been shipping since August.. just in very small numbers.

That'd make an interesting side plot to "RED the movie"

The surprising revelation about how RED deliberately tried to not deliver on the orders they had received to create tension amongst it's customers.

heh heh yeah.. there are a ton of good plot lines we have developed over the years :)

But seriously, I know, without a doubt, that if i was the customer in this situation I would myself would be wicked pissed off watching this whole EVF story unfold.

Everyone that ordered a Bomb EVF and is still waiting should read this post....

Deleted Matthews response.. and I will continue to do so if anyone wants to keep stirring the pot.

LOL - and in a huge plot twist, it turns out Jim is just a secret agent for Arri and bent on disrupting the market for cameras so Arri can prevail!! It's all just a big scam!!! :scared:

I'd laugh if they were all at a german airport somewhere with nervous disposal squads poking them with long sticks.

Wow, really? I thought his post was worded very thoughtfully and carefully. He was simply asking for more proactive communication from red about back ordered product. Fair request considering the situation.

Just to pile on here...

Yes it is good to hear that you "feel our pain" but again I have to say that as a small business owner who is trying to feed my family based using your equipment I feel like I have been sold a bill of goods. I have spent more than 2 times the cost of the EVF in rentals to this date. I wish that I had saved all of the emails with promise after promise of delivery. I understand that you can not always nail down manufacturing estimates to the day/week/month, but to be wrong by a year and a half?

I made a substantial purchase when I bought into the Red One. To date I have almost 100K invested in a piece of equipment that I can not use without going out of house for a rental. I have sent our DP to Reducation, I continue to promote the benefits of shooting on the Red to our clients and damn it, I love the images that we capture on this tool! But it is just a tool and tool manufacturers have an obligation to their users to support them.

For months and months I would receive no communication unless I would seek it out. I wish that I had saved all of the emails. Weather delays, parts out of stock, customs, airlines, ... I finally asked Matt Klamm to give me weekly updates which for the last few months has at least kept me from having to go search out the latest info.

Did that first delivery of the Epic come with a viewfinder? If it did shame on Red!

I see new products from Red that I would love to adopt but I have been burned. The love of the products has to be balanced with faith in the manufacturer.

Has Red thought of offering any kind of financial compensation to any of its bruised users. A discount on the price of the Bomb would be a nice olive branch to those of us who have been waiting over a year for KEY part of their equipment package to arrive.

When I over promise or under deliver to my clients I make it right on the invoice as well as the screen.

IMHO

With all due respect and sympathy, it does sort of sound like the glass is half full even though it may feel like it is half empty. :smile5:

Understand and sympathize your situation Robert.. and no Epics did not ship with EVFs. The Bomb EVF's for productions that have used the Epics are usually rented by the rental houses that have them like Keslow etc ( or they borrow me or Jim's)

I see you on the list Robert... Bad news is your EVF is not in next weeks shipment, Good news is it is in the shipment the next week after that. This time I promise.
