  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Yeah, the evf is placed way too far from the camera on the WC website.

I'll try to send a picture to you tomorrow R1/old evf/WC mount.

Thanks, yes when I looked at the photos and the price, I went for the spinner but I have to figure out other parts from RED can improve the way to use the Spinner/EVF. Looking forward to your photo.

I am hoping to get some demo time with that Wooden Camera EVF mount this weekend, it looks like the most elegant design out there - but I will reserve judgement until I actually spend some time with it.

Couple of questions for Philip, and anyone else with first hand experience:

How much does the EVF mount weigh including the rod bracket, rod, etc? Couldn't find that info on Wooden's website (though that could be me being a dummy).

How many places to you have to loosen to move it around? Looks like just two - one to slide the rod in and out, and another to allow the bit that attaches to the EVF to slide up and down the slot in the long slide.

How sturdy does it feel? Do you think it could handle rental use or is this a owner/operator item that ham handed renters could ruin relatively quickly?

I love the idea that it could go from low and forward for handheld to high and back for sticks/studio super fast. Have you done that, and if so, was it as easy as it looks.

I typically get ET gear due to the terrific materials, build quality, function and ability to hold up to rental use. The flip side of that robust design and construction is higher cost and often a bit more weight. Don't get me wrong, ET gives you value for your dollar, but its overkill for some people. I am also concerned that with the recent merger, focus on 3D and RED's ongoing redesign of the Epic body that ET may take longer to get a solution on the market. Perhaps Steven, Hector or someone on their staff would like to dispute that and tell the RedUser community they are deep into prototyping and expect to have production units for the bomb EVF shortly...

Full disclosure: I have worked closely with ET in the past and recommended their gear to many people over the last 4 years.

It feels pretty sturdy. Not as sturdy as spinner but has more flexibility. very simple to lock off, I have them tightened but not to much so it's totally flexible and a simple tighten and it's locked off...

I have't weighed it but it's very light
