Whaa?? They're already taking them in for upgrade?
"Equipment" in general, not EVFs in particular.

The truth is that I'm still in love with my Red ONE EVF (which also works with EPIC) so I don't get all these arguing about the "old" Bomb EVF (old, really?) I'm quite sure it's far better than the Real Old EVF (ROlEF from now on!).

First of all - the new OLED Bomb EVF is nothing but amazing. Haven't color proofed it but it's vibrant, has great contrast and the rainbowing and strobing is gone - just phenomenal. And - the fact that you can upgrade is just nothing but great.

However - there's still a huge "gamma" or "brightness" (for lack of a better word) problem for those people that haven't or aren't upgrading. This is something RED has acknowledged a few times and that should be fixed. The image in the "old" bomb EVFs just isn't on par with the first generation EVFs.

Funny thing is - I still have one of the first EVFs for my RED MX and had it repaired a few months back. I paid out of my nose for the repair (considering I could have bought a used one for just a little more) but the image on it after I got it back is definitely not as good as it was before it died on me. I've heard this from a few other people and I've been meaning to document it by making a before / after comparison. The only explanation I've got is that I'm assuming the panels they're putting into the EVFs are not the same as the first ones. I would appreciate it if someone from RED could confirm or deny this because then I think something might be wrong with the repair or the replaced panel I've had installed in mine.

I recently got to compare the OLED EVF to the LCOS EVF and I was really happy with the upgrades RED has made.

Honestly, I hoped the upgrade would be slightly less expensive, but I get it if RED needs to cover their bases there.

The blacks are black, the RGB ghosting is gone, the refresh is smooth... just a fantastic job all around. I might like some more work done to the eye piece to make it a little more comfortable and not have the need to press into it as much, but I don't think there is an EVF better on the market.

We will be doing the upgrade eventually. If RED considers lowering the price a bit... great, but we are just so happy that they are offering an upgrade path and continuing to improve the program.

Thanks again, RED.

Tony,

the old EVF looks better on the RedOne than on the Epic. On the Epic, however, the Bomb EVF (ridiculous name BTW...) and the old EVF have the same washed-out look. I guess that Red is working on the firmware to improve the signal for the EVF which additionally will make the OLED an even better experience.

Am I the only one that finds the current Bomb just fine for what it is?

It may have been ok for framing if I didn't get the strobing while panning. But maybe there is just something wrong with my eyes...

From what I hear the OLED should fix that issue as well as the black level.

You obviously think wrong, because the RED OLED EVF pixel dimensions differ from both of those sony displays.

Can you post the specs for Red's Oled? Who else makes Oled evf? I don't t think Red makes LCDs and EVFs. Someone (most likely Japenese or Korean manufacturer) made it. If it's not Sony's, the other big player is Samsung. However, if Samsung had such an EVF they would have used it in the new NX20.

Not to be rude, but does it really matter who makes the display?

Dimensions are slightly larger than 1280x720, I can't find the exact numbers, as the previous thread w/ specs was deleted.
