"Bomb" EVF naming

Does anyone think that actual bombs have the word "Bomb" on the side of it? The only time I have seen that is in a Road Runner cartoon when the Coyote orders his bombs from the Acme company.

And what about that incident where a woman just asked someone from tsa if she "thinks" there is a bomb on her luggage and started a fullblown shitstorm?

I don`t have any personal problems with the name, but something with an engraving like that is a de facto issue-maker.

And besides travelling on airplanes - what about security elsewhere? What if you want to film the POTUS, approach him (or any other country`s no 1) and his secret service espies these 4 lil digits? There are numerous and numerous examples like this and I (for my liking) don`t need more trouble than what I`m already got used to.

seriously... that EVF IS the BOMB... its all about context people. This is a silly thread.

I absolutely LOVE the name...
especially after seeing Ted hold it up. Its about 1/3 the size of the old one.
and with those specs, I say its clearly earned its name.

The new EVF is THE BOMB

what happened to the "RED Sight" from the much earlier renders and IBC models? I thought this was replacing the "Bomb EVF"

The Red Sight seems like a more appropriate name given the new, more boxy shape. The earlier renders with the EVF mounted on top of the camera showed a more 'bomb-like' shape to it.

The 3D setup from the old announcement-- Now those look like bombs from the 50's

Mike Figgis was going through LAX security in 2007. They asked him why he was entering the country. His answer:

"To shoot a pilot."

He was detained for several hours - good thing he didn't have the Bomb EVF with him at the time!

I also agree with Hrvoje on the whole "war names aren't cool' thing. I don't like all the juvenile, violent names of RED. It smacks of 16-year old American male who has never actually experienced violence in his life but thinks it's super cool.

I have had close friends shot and killed. Others have been stabbed with pointy metal things so "gunner" "bomb" "buzzsaw" etc are not "cool" for me.

But it's their company - they can name it whatever they want. I would however pay $50 more for a product without a violent name.

Ha ha Milan. I got one even better then that. I had a friend with homemade Makita battery power for an Arri S on a trip back from shooting snowboarding in South America. It kind of looked like a bomb like all taped up with wires coming out. He thought it would be funny to write "bomb" on it in sharpie. At security in Chile they found the "joke" bomb. They took his bag with his camera, lenses, all his shot film from the trip and the Makita battery with the word bomb on it and blew all of it up. He lost all his gear and his film from the trip. He never put the word bomb on any of his gear again.
Pretty sketchy stuff for sure with a word like that on your gear especially in this day and age.

That's nuts Mike. This story is worth repeating for those who think it's not a big deal.
Good luck explaining to your insurance company why did your set of Super Speeds go boom in Chile!

Yes, the gaffers tape will do the trick but if they lift the tape you are in double trouble because now you are trying to disguise your "bomb".

Somebody should also talk to Danny K. about changing that logo. jk ;)

In American slang, it is not uncommon to tout something as being extraordinary by calling it "The Bomb". For instance, "That new ___________ is the bomb". Meaning, it's great.

I was on the airplane with this in my carry on recently and nobody had trouble with the artillery shell.

Man stopped at airport for wearing a transformers t-shirt showing Optimus with one arm as a gun. Threatened with arrest.

Or at the other end of the sanity spectrum, there's Australia - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1FkYPV7Iwu4. :001_tongue:

There's safety, and then there's stupidity. If security people like those in the article can't tell the difference between a shirt and a real threat, how are they supposed to keep real threats out?

Funny I was boarding with this in Gatwick.
I guess Brits have more appreciation of good drinks then cartoons.
Artillery shell and bombs are not the guns maybe are not on the list of prohibited items in Gatwick

The adult in me that thinks war is stupid and the absolute worst humanity has to offer thinks the name is bad.

But the kid in me that used to play with GI Joes thinks it's cool.

Maybe they should call it the BMB-EVF.
