Just unboxed my bomb evf. And im not happy with the images.
A better description of the fault would be severe tearing on vertical lines whilst panning. Im also getting a trailing dark line shadow around hard edges and slight green shading appearing and disappearing. The fault is worse on the Epic than the RED M. I believe the Refresh EVF feature on the RED M helps but its not perfect still. Iv'e been tinkering ( English for pushing lots of buttons) but Ive yet to find a solution. I hope this is an isololated incident is it? Iv'e got a red ticket open and I'll keep tinkering!!

i had two bomb evf's in my hand, one showed beatyful pictures but the heater was on,
the second showed flicker ( kind of polarization) and the heater was turned of.
couldnt find menus for setting up the EVF signal in epic (like you can with the RED).
so maybe its user error and somebody just need to tell us how :)

Iv'e been tinkering. I see that the Bomb functions are covered in the red user manual on both the Epic and Red One. Iv'e also discovered that I can get rid of the lag, and jittery image by using an open gate on the viewfinder menu ? Do I want to always operate the Bomb in open gate mode?

Yup its a British thing ...
A tinker was originally an itinerant tinsmith, who mended household utensils. The term "tinker" became used in British society to refer to marginalized persons. In this later sense, "tinker" may mean:
Irish traveller, a nomadic or itinerant people of Irish origin
Scottish traveller, a nomadic or itinerant people of Scottish origin
Gypsy.

But to get back on track is the only way I can reduce strobing and the jello effect in the EVF by using the open gate setting? Im getting a good image on my monitor ..It only looks bad on the EVF?? This can't be right can it? I'll keep" tinkering" with the settings.. but in the meantime it would be good to have a Guru chime in here and help a poor Brit out :-)

It spuds like you are running it on a red one.

You should look at evf refresh. If you feel it is strob-ie you should set it to Fixed.

Spuds like me have to plug it into the RED ONE because Im still waiting for me bleeding Epic a'int I ?
Done the EVF refresh . Done the firmware upgrade.. Still looks crap. I suspect its faulty.

So Iv'e tested the Bomb now on 2 Epic's and another RED ONE. The results are not good. Is there not a EVF refresh button on the Epic ? I was getting worse images out of the Epic than I am my own RED ONE? I /We were thinking a EVF refresh might at least help. I think its time to send it back but please let me know if anyone else is having the same issue and if you have a solution?

Jon,
Do not give up on this thread, I am considering a Bomb EVF and really want to know the outcome of this.. There have to be some happy EVF owners (I see them post all the time). So can you guys PLEASE share your settings and/or experiences about your Bombs? Need to know the pictures is pristine and wonderful across the board before I drop over $3,000 on this thing..

Jay

i have no clue on the heater too.
and i'd like to see dark detail, opengate etc. on epic.
on the r1 the bomb works superb. on my epic i used two different
bombs, one flickering, one not.
and on the epic the heater is turned off.
guess: the evf menu is just not enabled yet and we all shouldnt panic :)))

Hi Jon. Our Bomb EVF only arrived today. And we're still waiting for a few more bits and pieces before we can light it up. Like the Canon mount (all our glass is Canon), and the side handle and the REDMOTE. I'd rather wait for everything and test everything, down the line.
Looks like most of that will be in by mid November. Then we'll start doing some work. I'll chime in once I get a picture up.

My BOMB EVF has been working fine, I too see that flicker occasionally, but today on set the BOMB all of a sudden stopped displaying an image, but a a very faint red flash. I tried a reboot, switching EVF cables, even tried it on a different EPIC all with the same results. Has anybody came across this issue? Or know any fixes?
