Hey Everyone,

Has anyone had experience with shooting with the OPTEFEX BLUE STREAK FILTERS?
(LINK) http://www.optefex.com/streak-filters

This may seem silly, but I'm shooting a music video and the JJ inspired flares is the desired look, wanted to see if it was possible to achieve this look as much in camera.
Is this the best alternative?
Do Tiffen or Schneider make an equivalent?

Thanks again in advance, appreciate any feedback or suggestions.

I use the Schneider True Streak when I need the effect and am not shooting anamorphic. Kinda looks like this:

Thanks Phil,

Can't go wrong with Schneider at all!
One quick question, with the "CLEAR" True streaks, does the color of the light source determine the color of the streak ?
These really do look neat
though!

Ya learn something everyday !
20 years I have been shooting and never even new these existed. I must be living under a rock !

I use them all time. They are great. BTW I think that Optefex and schneiders are the same product. Ira Tiffen - who made Optefex is now employed by Schneider, and it looks like they took optefex in house also. The DOP Shop stopped selling Optefex at about the same time that Ira was transitioning to Schneider. Ira, sorry if I'm incorrect.

I often use the 1mm in both blue and violet. I usually want a strong effect if I want it at all.

Something to be aware of: If you begin to stop down or use wide lenses, you may begin to see the vertical lenses (the tubes of colored glass) suspended in the clear glass. ND will will get you back into the zone.

I always have them on commercials, because you never know when you might want a little WOW.

Toia, you need a set of these.

Correct. Clear holds the color of any light source. Most tend to favor the blue streak around town as it gives you that Panavision-ish anamorphic flare color.

They aren't too common on feature films, but I do see them used a lot in commercials, television, and music videos these days. Everybody likes a good flare now and again.

Yup. Ira's been at Schneider for a while now (September 2012). Optefex no longer is in business and they are now rebranded as Schneider True Streaks. I was the first to get one 6 months ago from Ira himself. I've been using the Blue 3mm for a while and love it. I tend to like a more natural streak than too much, so a 3mm works great. 1 & 2 was a bit strong for me, but if you're JJ Abrams, 1mm is perfect.

I may be selling mine soon if anyone is interested, 4x5.65 Blue 3mm. Haven't had much use for it recently and it's in perfect condition.

I have the clear Tiffen Streak filters. They work well also.

Those look cool, though. Now I want to pick up a blue and violet...

You can see the Tiffen Streak filters in use on the shot of the model walking through the Xmas lights on my reel:
(Can't remeber what size I used on the shot.)
