Hi

This is very good news. We usually start off with ND 9-15 when doing exteriors these days... Not too good for the signal.
I think a RED approved ND/IR combo sounds great!

That said:
When?
What price?
Is it hard to replace?

I guess we'd use one for interiors and nightshots, the other for exteriors.

But then it should be a simple and non-destructive routine...

Cheers

It would have to be very easy. And I would fear the period when the OLPF were off the sensor... imagine something goes wrong. Of course this would be done with the utmost care, by capable and trustworthy hands. Still, it would have to be a fool proof design to even consider doing "daily" OLPF switches, Gunleik.

Is there some sort of clear filter between the OLPF and the sensor that will always remain to protect the photosites?

It's a great idea but for it to be practical the OPLF swap over needs to be fast and easy. I would prefer that I did not have to use a screwdriver or any metal tool close to the sensor and that I did not need tweezers or pliers to pull out the OPLF. I also assume fingerprints on the OPLF is a bad idea.

If I undwestand right an OPLF is a plano (flat and parallel) filter. So unless the replacement filter were the exact same thickness as the previous one you woud have to reset your flange focale depth. This is due to the fact that if you put a window (filter) behind the lens it will optically increase the FFD by appx. one third the thickness of the filter.
Now this is not a big thing if you kno0w how to, but with the newer high speed lenses it is a critical adjustment. Perhaps best by a qualified tech.

Also if the OPLF is on some sort of swing and tilt adjustable mount then it gets even more complicated.

It's a pretty safe bet Red will make sure their OPLF are all the same thickness and back focus will not be an issue What I am hoping is the OPLF includes the IR filter so you could try out some cool IR shoots by removing the filter which of course would require a change in backfocus

Gunleik did you see if the Epic is more probe to IR contamination than the One?

These days I shoot with The Epic and ND 9 +12 and IR cut and see some significant IR spill. I can't rember having that on the One.
