  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Birger Lens Mount Reservations

Yup, everything working fine so far. Both wireless and tethered.
Lenses i've tried are the 24-70, 10-22, 16-35.

My last project "Sutphin Blvd" was shot entirely in the NYC subway with the Birger mount and 24mm 1.4 and 50mm 1.2 canon lenses. I wouldn't have been able to do it otherwise and I am glad to announce that it got selected in the Sitges Fantasy Film Festival 2009, Spain for official competition.

I would like to thank in public Birger for making the Birger mount and making it work with the impero. It really helped my production. Thanks

lens data

lens data

so i haven't had lens data in the last 4 builds. i had to collimate the mount for my 16-35mm zoom the other day- not as easy when you have no numbers to reference.

anyway, is anyone getting lens data in build 21? i'm cannot get anything no matter what i try to switch on or off in the camera prefs.

however, functionally, everything else on my birger and impero works fine with all lenses.

Erik will see a Nikon Birger mount in the future?

I'm sure everyone has been hounding for it.

Any news on the PL mount adapter for the Birger mount?

May need this for some upcoming shoots and would definitely prefer to not remove the Birger mount.

Where did you hear about this PL mount adapter? That would be great! I sweat bullets everytime I have to switch my mount. Is it going to have i/data?

Yes, is it true that someone is trying to make such an adaptor? It would definitively be great, even if there is no ipin for the PL.

o boy... this is a surprise to us (as usual) and it probably shouldn't of been given the warranty agreement. I hope I am not forced into being the bad guy again :)

In this post, Erik clearly say that the mount still need to go through RED before it ship, so no worries...

Plus it looks like it will not touch anything on the camera side beyond what is already authorised by the existing Birger EF mount assembly. Only the front portion of the mount is changed which is a MUCH safer alternative since we no longer will have to fiddle with the /i pin cable etc. Put on, set and forget. Genius!

My only question (for Erik) is how much weight will it support compared to the original Red PL mount assembly? I'm thinking it will have less weight tolerance simply due to four vs eight screws, but I'd love to see some hard numbers.

I like surprises like this - though you might want to keep Jarred a bit more in the loop.

Sweet news - once the warranty has been sorted out.

How long does it take to change from Canon to PL and vice versa? Is this something that could be done in the field? I guess not, since the collamination is a semi-complex process.

Yeah... some things never change I guess.. Surprises like this definitely dictate how we deal with making warranty exceptions in the "future".

At any rate... if this PL mount acts just like a dumb canon mount that you put a PL lens into and it doesn't send any info it should be fine..

Is there an instruction manual for using the Impero with the Birger? Not just the setup, but the normal operational functions.
