  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Birger Lens Mount Reservations

What a great combination!

What a great combination!

I know what the feature is... you guys are gonna love it. BTW... I just got Impero to talk directly to the Birger via wireless bluetooth... This is soooo cool.

Great 5000th post Curt. So looking forward to the arrival and the new features. Having your Impero talk to the Birger mount via wireless...

Priceless!

What's the distance? How far??

Very excited to get out and shoot with the cool new tools and features you guys have worked so hard on. Will make sure to take plenty of photos of the rig.

Do you have a mounting bracket for the Impero?

So glad that you guys are working together to make this such a great package.

Thank you again,
Frazier Nivens, Ocean Imaging

I guess someone has to ask...

I guess someone has to ask...

it may as well be me.

What's the status? Did any units go out?

Not to be negative but the "on again, off again" roller coaster is wearing me down.

I'm sure everyone, including Erik, will be relieved when the units are actually shipping. I look forward to all the lens tests (with footage please!) and examples of creative use of the RED/Birger/Canon combo!

My local pharmacy has reported my Zantac abuse so I've been cut off.

A Friday update would be great! :innocent: Thanks in advance Erik!

You're gonna be happy me thinks.

I'm sure I will.

I've had numerous challenges in recent months, from a serious health issue in the family, to major financial setbacks, and nearly gave up on having the RED, in part because the Birger mount wasn't ready.

But I have always believed in both!

Alright, Jay, that's your second, smug, "I know something you don't know.." post. :matrix:

Give it up! Spill it! Come on, let us in on the Secret! You know you want to--just give it up! :)

At least somebody could PM me with the big secret!!!!

I'm not being smug.. I just have a lot of faith in Erik, that's all.

He'll get this done and you will be happy campers.. I'll be left all alone here in this thread, keeping it alive, and bitching about Erik since by now it's beome more a force of habit!!!

:)

I was referring to the technology of the two devices being used together.

Quite right in doind so! I was joking at least as much as being serious. We all knows the promises given are quite flexible. But, that's part of engineering and engineers, who tend to be over optimistic and believe things things can be solved in much shorter time than what actually is possible. So, it's only that Erik has taken our money already a long time, which makes one to expect responsible feedback from him.

I agree with statement %100. I pre-ordered a few other tech products over the years and have come to expect good communication from the developers.

It really makes a difference with customer satisfaction. Nothing personal Erik, it's just good business.

One added feature for the Birger mount is that it now fully controls the Canon EF 85 mm F1.2 L II Lens. I don't believe thats the big surprise but it's a nice one.

Great to hear this! I really like this lens.

New and interesting development on this thread....
Like waiting on a bus that doesn't arrive... And people start to freak out....
Good luck Erik! I root for you! Keep your head cool in this noise.

It doesn't seem like anyone is freaking out to me. Poking a bit of fun while waiting for the bus, sure. :clown2:

I have faith that the Birger mount will be very well made.

Just to remind everyone that there is a light at the end of the tunnel....

I did a quick test yesterday with my EF 100mm f2 lens on the Birger mount to see how it looks.

This was shot wide open with zero lighting other than our office fluoros, at 1/50th shutter speed 23.98fps using Build 17 3.4.1 and processed from R3D to TIFF using RedCine 3.1.8 and then tweaked in Photoshop for colour. Click on the image to download a full size 4K JPG version.

The results speak for themselves. Once the Impero is delivered I think you'll see a true revolution in low budget shooting develop which looks every bit as good as much higher cost cinema lenses for 99% of projects. The 1% that still need the specialised qualities of true cinema optics will continue to use them (and we would too for certain needs) but for the price of the Red 18-85 zoom (which is FANTASTIC btw) one could buy an entire set of fast Canon L primes and have a formidable shooting set. Those economics are not to be ignored in these uncertain times....

Have any more mounts shipped this past week? Is there any way we can get a rough estimate of where we are in the line?

Eric, time for a wee bit of info?

BTW that image looks really nice, Paul! The 100, 2. Is that an old lens? I thought they only did the 135 and 85 these days....
