  • Hey all, just changed over the backend after 15 years I figured time to give it a bit of an update, its probably gonna be a bit weird for most of you and i am sure there is a few bugs to work out but it should kinda work the same as before... hopefully :)

Birger Lens Mount Reservations

If an order was placed before 18 November 2008, for every lens mount and camera adapter reserved and ultimately purchased, that reservation holder is entitled to buy an Impero plus and Accessory Cable, for the original price of a Knob ($300) plus an Accessory Cable ($75). Doesn't matter if the original form specified a knob or remote. We will contact you when the Imperos arrive to verify what is desired. The original order form was a la carte, which proved confusing to many, so the new form has it packaged out in a way that makes sense for 99% of people.

Every Lens Mount and Impero combo requires two accessory cables. The first powers the mount from the camera, and the second cable is used for pairing the Impero with the mount, without needing a computer.

The earliest reservation holders are paying $210 less for their mount and cable, which now includes a shimless collimation system, and $325 less for their Remote. So the advantage to being an early reservation holder is $535, minus the amount spent on Zantac... or something stronger...

My order was placed by the DEC 5 deadline to still qualify for the free Bluetooth Remote. What is the difference between this and the 18 nov date you mentioned?

EDIT: Oops. Sorry, I just realized I was a YEAR off. I ordered Dec 5 2007 and you are saying a cutoff of Nov 18th 2008. My Bad--I guess I am firmly in that group!!!

FYI: Just got off the phone with Erik. In regards to the refund, if you're still waiting for a refund like me, you can get reinstated and back in line. Considering Erik really is shipping this time, an option to seriously consider. And with the price savings for being an early buyer, it sort of pays for the dumb mount and I'll just get the birger mount too with a backup option. Guess it works out for me in the end.

P.S. Erik had a really "cool" reason to delay a few days last week. I'm not saying any more then that. :whistling:

Eric, or anyone,

Will there be any issues related to cold temperature with this mount? We've seen the issue being discussed relating to the camera, but what about the Birger mount?

Previous version passed full qualification to fly on the space shuttle. And, a number of our customers (mostly university researchers) fly these things on very high altitude balloons without trouble... Cold has yet to be a problem.

hmmm... deep space, high altitude.
My guess is you've got this one covered. :weight_lift: :sorcerer:

Thanks for the reply.

Finishing up for the day. About 70% of my day was spent on the telephone with customers in response to last night's email. The remaining 30% of my day was spent making sure this software release is good to go. Unfortunately I needed the mix to be the flip of this to get the first couple of units shipped today. We did not find any problems in the software which makes me very happy. But, I did not get the last of my testing done to give it my stamp of approval. Phone calls will probably not get through to me until that happens, some time tomorrow morning.

I spoke to Curt, and it is looking good for Imperos later this week.

Next update, as soon as Lauri and Frazier get their tracking numbers... one of them will probably beat me to posting.

I am very happy with how the last couple of days have gone, and all of the cool surprises we have coming. THis is wrapping up very nicely.

We just froze the software release! Didn't really have any issues to speak of, we just wanted to do a complete validation of the non-field upgradeable part of the code. This is kind of a big deal for us to get right, as we needed to make sure we were completely compatible with our protocol spec, and old software libraries.

And while we were doing the testing, we managed to completely debug a new feature that we though we not be in this library release... :whistling: it makes me smile every time I think about the feature... :)

The 25 units, mentioned in the sunday night email, will be progrsmmed with the new software in the morning, go through final testing, and be sent out by the end of the day. Lauri and Frazier, we'll try to sneak yours through the process early in the day as I know you a both itching to post that you got your tracking numbers.

Lastly, no tracking numbers will be issued until a unit passes testing... we know where that got me last time. :ranting2:

Thanks for keeping us in the loop Erik.

Any clue as to the new "cool" feature?:detective2:

C'mon, you know you want to let us in on it...

only a few more posts to 5000 folks... so step,up, step up.... who'll it be??

Maybe Eric can gift a little prize to whomever pushes this thread over the edge and into the abyss...

meanwhile... hunting back for 1dog's old list.... I think I may be just outside the "next 25"....

I was trying to remember where on the list I was too. No idea though..

I have to say I've been doing my best to just Zen my way through while waiting but I'm actually starting to get excited!

I know what the feature is... you guys are gonna love it. BTW... I just got Impero to talk directly to the Birger via wireless bluetooth... This is soooo cool.
